Can anyone recommend me other Hishashi scores I must listen befote I will come to Ubeda?

(I have heard: Spiritied, Mononoke, Porco Rosso and laputa.)

    THanks!

All scores you've heard are great. smile

All other his scores from Ghibli/Miyazaki films are worth listening... but especially,

    - Princess Mononoke: Symphonic Suite - If you haven't heard this version yet.

    - My Neighbor Totoro - It's an orchestral + synth score with extraordinary catchy themes & songs. A lot of playful tunes. And The Paths Of Wind is one of his best pieces.

    - Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea - Similar feel to Totoro but purely orchestral and more complex. Ponyo's theme is crazily catchy, again. biggrin

I'm still not familiar with his live-action scores. Probably Demetris knows better. But I can recommend Kikujiro, which contains one of the most recognized piece in Japan (Summer).

I also recommend his non-film music, especially from PIANO STORIES series. Oriental Wind (from Freedom: PIANO STORIES 4) and Les Aventuriers (from PIANO STORIES 2: The Wind Of Life) are really awesome. punk

    Enjoy! wave

Every Hisaishi soundtrack for a Ghibli anime is worth a listen. And yes, i also include Nausicaa, which is almost part orchestra and part synth, but with the orchestra dominating the score.
The Nausicaa theme is a top Hisaishi tune in my opinion.
For his live action movies i only know his work for "beat" Kitano films. It's a distinct genre kind of score, with a different mood like those he does for the Ghibli movies.
Here Hisaishi creates a more urban modern feel for his music, but all his melodic touches are still there.
I especially like Hana-bi (Fireworks), Sonatine and Brother.

She is a great fan of the movie (a devoted lover of Kitano´s work) but was not familiar with Hisaishi´s music at all. When I told her the name of the composer, she inmediately wrote it on her notebook to search for more Joe´s film works.
And yes, she´s really great. Thanks for your kind words, Miya.
