Now playing in the photo thread?

Love it! LET CHAOS RULE!!! cheesy

Actually, I think it's quite a nice idea. You could have a separate section of the reply box to post your 'NP' in any thread as well as keeping the NP for NP discussions.

    Am I over thinking this?

    Yes.

    ( wink )

No. It's part of the Filmtracks forum I think? I'd be cool though, having the NP in the right corner for example. But then what about commenting on it?

When we first started wasn't there a time when there wasn't a dedicated "Now Playing" thread - we just added a NP at the bottom of all our posts?

You're asking me to remember that far back? I thought Ultimate-Williams-Fan was another person until Martijn pointed it out to me.

I'm slowly beginning to make some progress in the new place although I feel like I'm living in a used CD shop. I have 6 of these units which are really quite easy to make at a cost of $17.00 per unit. They are screwed together so they can be taken apart pretty easily.

They're 6' high and 3' wide. Since my tripod is still in San Diego the sharpness isn't there because of handholding in low light. Still you get the idea.

What a trip James! Seeing these huge animals must have been incredible. How close were you with the elephants?

What photo project are you working btw?

The elephants came very close - didn't really seem bothered by us at all. That was great. It was also great when the lions came close, but in hindsight they were really VERY close, considering we were in an open-sided vehicle with no roof either. One lioness walked within a metre of us and then sat there licking her paws - again, didn't seem that bothered by us.

The project was putting everything together into a (physical) photobook, which arrived a couple of days ago and looks terrific!

    Wow! What a great shot!
I love the added perspective by the elephants being in focus (and what a razor sharp image!) and the surroundings just out of focus.

What kind of camera and lens did you use, James?

    Good one, James!

Do you modify your shots before you upload them? Sharpen, etc.

I do sometimes, but I don't really know what I'm doing. I only have the rather basic software which came with the camera - can't afford Photoshop!

My camera is a Sony Alpha-350 and the lens for that shot is a 75-300mm one, in this case 180mm, f/5.6, 1/320 exposure.

Inspired by James' wildlife photo, here's one of my own.

It was one of the rainy days and we spent some of the time out of the rain, in an otter hide. And we were lucky enough to spot this:

    OTTER ON SKYE

This was about as much of it as we saw! But it was worth it!! We were some distance away and the camera was at maximum zoom (12x).

    Great pic James cool

I'll get some pics up soon, I'm in the process of having them transferred from slide to disc.

I have some wildlife shots but they tend to concentrate more on the multi-legged variety so I doubt Martijn will want to see them.

    p.s. James, more please!!

As a young boy I use to swim out to this island which was about 1/2 mile from shore. It is in northern Minnesota.

Reminds me of that island in the book Life of Pi ! (except for the land in the background of course)

That must have been adventurous to do as a young boy. Where I lived there were some woods and I remember having many adventures there too. We had ponds too by the way and I had a rubber boat.

    Time for another safari pic.

This one's a terrible photo (it was just too dark, really) but it's from probably the most incredible half-hour show I've ever seen. A huge pride of lions at play. Shortly after this, the lionesses were teaching their cubs how to hunt, as they both chased after a buffalo (which was huge). They didn't manage to kill it, but it was amazing to see.

Another one then. Leopard in a tree. We were lucky to see this, I think. He (or she - can't remember) had just dragged an impala up the tree next door and then eaten it. An impala is huge, compared with a leopard. You can see how full his belly is.
