Brilliant ! I'm glad I found this gem of a compilation (Erik wave ).

Feel good post of the day! A positive reaction to one of my recommendations always makes me feel great! I'm so glad you enjoyed what I consider to be one of the finest compilation albums and re-recordings of all time!

Haha, it's always nice to follow recommendations of people who know what they're talking about. I thorougly enjoyed the other Kunzels in equal measure: Star Tracks II and Fantastic Journey, and I just ordered The Big Picture on eBay. In a time of average or downright dreadful scores, these albums are a godsend for me. wink It reminds me what it was like 10-30 years ago punk

Yet another criminally underrated composer. Look what kind of release this very enjoyable score got... sad

Agreed! What a wonderful suite... so full of life with rich lyrical themes that likes of we rarely hear these days! I will say this again... even though McNeely is wasting his talent on these silly direct to video films at least he is still working and at least we can still enjoy a snippet of his brilliant work. Hopefully one day some young director wakes the fuck up, recognizes McNeely extraordinary talent and give him a blockbuster to score!

BTW - NP: "Marshall Flies The Skybolt from Wild America - Joel McNeely

Even though this fantastic piece is in parts influenced by James Horner's "The Launch" from Apollo 13, McNeely crafts a wonderful, inspiring main theme and injects his own style or voice into the cue creating one of his grandest pieces ever!

He strikes me as a "serious" composer who occassionally dabbles in film music.

Revolution would be a fantastic release.

NP: Finding Nemo (complete promo) - Thomas Newman

Despite some weaknesses like the lack of a proper main theme and thematic development, this score remains one of my favourites by Thomas Newman.

A lot of Beltramierisms, but I enjoy it more than other of his scores.

This scores include some new ideas in Beltrami's usual list of tricks, but what I specially enjoy are Goldenthal moments in the last tracks.

"new York" is really, really Impressive! punk punk

Frederic Talgorn - Les Enfants de Timpelbach
Good score but a tad too long. I still prefer Les Aiguilles Rouges.

Philippe Rombi - Un Homme et Son Chien
Utter gorgeousness! What a score! Meltissimo.

There's a pretty darn good 15 minute suite on my Best of 2008 show.

  4. First played: Face/Off (John Powell)

This is basically one of the only Powells I can enjoy. Call me old-fashioned but I'm not into Powell's style at all. Except for his animated co-compositions. And this early one is so etched into Hans Zimmer's style of composing I can't help but enjoy it, it also contains one of my favourite ending themes. I just love how the (brilliant) film ends on that very positive note.

Now playing: The Shadow expanded (Jerry Goldsmith)

I need me some Goldsmith, and this is sheer fun and memorable themes aplenty. Come to think of it, maybe this man right here would have been the perfect choice for Iron Man, I just thought about this after all the Iron Man / Djawadi talk on the forum and the awful score. The Shadow is a light, campy yet exciting superhero romp, just like Iron Man. I'm fairly certain Goldsmith would've accepted this job if the good man was still alive. But we'll never know for sure. sad

The new recording is superb, or it just me?

    NP:Lair (Debney)

In my three all time favourite scores. Pure feeling of Ancient magic!

I simply love it, for pure entertaining and because of personal reasons.

"overture" , "diviner's battle", "darkness theme", "elegy" "diviner's theme" or "civilitathion theme" punk

Interesting. Face Off is one of the few Powells I don't enjoy, simply because it sounds so MV-ish and synthy.

I LOVE this score -- can't sa yti enough. I listen to the compelte DVD isolated score and I still yern for more -- it's just too short. The day this get's released on CD as a whole, will be a day that didn't come soon enough.

WP: Shawshank Redemption - Thomas Newman

It's Sunday. It's spring. But horrible weather today... the sky is grey, wind blowing, annoying rain damps my bad hair! Aw! So I decided to close the curtains, turn off the light, lay back on the bed, and listen to a great score! (I fell asleep for a while but it's not because of the music wink)

The last two tracks, from So Was Red to End Title, never failed to move me...

NP: Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix - Nicholas Hooper

If this had been for some TV show, I'd have given it 4 stars out of 5. But it just doesn't stand up to the other scores in this series. While some tracks like Professor Umbridge, Dumbledore's Army, Hall Of Prophecy and Flight Of The Order Of The Phoenix are certainly good, the others are quite there like fillers. I hope JW is back for the final film(s).
