Having a little extra spare cash, I made three purchases (If Intrada and FSM had made those announcements just two weeks earlier, I would have saved!), and two arrived a couple days ago.
I took advantage of the Screen Archive Varese Sarabande CD sale and for $4.00 each:
"Rich In Love" (Georges Delerue)
"Richochet" (Alan Silvestri)
"Richochet" you got to be in the mode for I guess. The loud orchestra hits in the Main Title are mixed way, way too fucking high in contrast to the detache strings, though. And a criminal thing to do: A CD full of score, except one crappy song by Ice-T. Guess where that song is. Track fucking one. That shit should be moved to the end of the CD to die the painful death it deserves.
"Rich In Love" is simply a beautiful, lyrical work with some lovely flute and other instrument solos. No Delerue fan should be without this score, and any score fan should check it out.
The linear notes, with about three or four paragraphs from the director on the score and working with Delerue are informative and a fun read. The second page with notes by (I forget who) is interesting, but a very, very sad reminder about this score, because it was his last, but the notes reveal something I did not know: it states that right after the very last note of the score was recorded, that's when Delerue died. He must have died right there infront of all the musicians, staff, and director. Horrible, jarring.
For note of interest, this was Delerue's last recorded score (the linear notes don't mention the following), he had written and was writting a score for "Sneakers" (after Goldsmith had to leave), but I guess unless someone like Disques CineMusique finds the papers and makes a recording, we'll nevr know what Delerue had in mind. Not familiar with eihter, but I gather from reviews they are quite good (in a very IMAX documentary in-your-face kinda way. Which I like.)
And some Disques Cinémusique CDs:
* George Delerue: Les Plus Beaux Thèmes Pour La Flûte Et Le Hautbois
One of the worst covers I have seen in recent history, but I'm a sucker for Delerue rerecordings, and with flute and oboe -two of Delerue's most employed solo instruments- I'm expecting some good stuff! And in a comparable vein:
* George Delerue: Les Plus Beaux Thèmes Pour Le Piano
Less familiar stuff on here, so looking forward to it.
* Promise At Dawn - Georges Delerue
Not familiar with this score.
And, as a completely unexpected bonus at no cost:
* Sans Famille/Madame De... - Carolin Petit
I have heard some of Petit's work before, and it's a lovely chamber orchestra Romantic style.
I think I might enjoy this one quite a bit. And what a lovely gesture by Disques Cinémusiques!

It's quite possible that all that Cinefonia stock that was reportedly in the process of being trashed was taken over by DCM. There are many gems from that catalog. -

8 pounds each. If they had a copy, I'd take On Her Majesty's Secret Service rather than Living Daylights, but TLD is one of my all-time Bond favourites.

The Living Daylights is a Barry classic, a brilliant swan song to bow out on. Goldfinger is one of the great classic Bond scores, Barry's own personal favourite and really what all ( good ) Bond scores are judged by.
