You can always hide it with two choices, more books or bandages made from book thrown at you... both choices are WIN-WIN for me...

Franz and D., I said it was easier to appreciate, as in, it's a more obvious and easy going waltz than the one from Cheri (to my ears, which may bleed sometimes), as I had more work to note the waltz in all is variations. I feel it's "simpler" in Coco smile. I think the Cheri waltz is more memorable and definitely 'grander' in some sort of way. I'll still miss it.

Yeap; minimalist, small-scale and plain in contrast to the more sweeping and lush in the case of Cheri. Would you agree?

Just to interject, that assertion is right on.

    NP:Angels And Demons (Zimmer)

You only have to add electric guitars to the mix and you have a score from Media ventures Glory day.

I love Langdhon's theme piano version in the end of "God Particle" and " Air".

"Black Smoke" is the Highlight action cue of the score. IMHO.

I have to say i am with Michael here; i loved both of them but if I were to choose i'd also go for Cheri. Maybe it's Coco's slightly more experimental and less-ordinary Desplat that charmed Erik and Bregt?

I'm not really sure but I think there is a flow to the album that kept my attention for the entire running time and for the first time in a long time I had a genuine emotional connection to an entire Desplat score instead of just parts or certain cues. Coco is a well balanced score and album and I'd pick it over Cheri even though Cheri contains the best cue out of both scores.

It's a very good track. Though 160BPM is the powerhouse that only Hans can do.

Awwww don't say that shocked I HATE Broken Arrow.

To use a phrase of the current generation....WORD!

I've just thought, bearing in mind the recent discussions, does one word qualify as a phrase?

There is a bit of repetition in CHERI, I'll give you that. 'Les Courtesanes' probably didn't absolutely have to be there.

    NP: The Adjuster (Danna)

Love the Steve Reich pastiche 'Talk Show Host'.

    Cheri Alexendre Desplat

I'll admit, I'm sort of in neutral ground as far as Desplat is concerned. I don't think he's boring by any stretch of the imagination, nor do I believe he's the next greatest composer to ever grace our planet.

This score pretty much backs up that stance. I like it... but it's not something I'm going to put on when I want something amazing.

Phooey to all this ambivalent enthusiasm. I love this score.

    Stanislas Syrewicz - True Blue
This one sounds heavily inspired by Chariots of Fire. What are you doing Stanislas? It started out so-so but it's getting better.

OK. The track Wooden Oars is definitely a highlight. Uplifting like Basil writing a sailing theme.
  4. His music for BLOOD UPON THE SNOW is a gem that few have held up close.

Oh, that's also called Russia's War? I have that but unopened.
Of his other works I like Clandestine Marriage and The Choir.
  5. I don't think I've heard another Stanislas Syrewicz score. (I always feel good when i can spell his surname from memory and not have to look it up!)

Memoirs of a Geisha - John Williams

My least-liked Williams score so far. I give it a spin from time to time, hoping that I will like it more but so far it's been without success. Even the main theme fails to impress me. Actually, it's been the first time since 2006 that I listened to the whole CD from start to finish, I had always quit before. But listening to it now I still think it is looooooong and sleep

Too bad because I consider it one of the finest scores written this decade!

I prefer Munich by Williams from this decade. Or The patriot - which, I know many don't like but I think it's great.

I love The Patriot (though not too keen on its recording). I'm rarely in the mood for either Munich or Memoirs of a Geisha (although I much prefer the latter to the depressing mood-killer that is the former).

    Lost Season 4 Michael Giacchino

Only worth getting if you're a Lost fanatic. There's not much here to discern between the three previous albums (of which I still believe the first to be the strongest of the lot... or maybe the third... or maybe the second... see what I mean?).

Really? Only the Oceanic 6 theme and its variations are worth the listening experience IMO. Also some action cues very different from what we´d listened before.
