    Question for Franz Liszt:

Now, this is not a dig, just curiosity, but do you ever listen to "fun" scores? You know, a score where you can just let your hair down? (So to speak?)

Of course he does, that's why Schindler's List isn't going into the box.

    - Avalon (Kenji Kawai)

Time to see a shrink lad! Or what shall we do with the drunken sailor? What shall we do with the drunken sailor, early in the morning? Lalalala.

I thought you really liked this score?

I like it. I wouldn't say I love it, but I do like it. It is now ripped to my hard drive now, so the chances of me playing it are more likely than when it was one of 2500 on a shelf.

On Kawai, I have most definitely kept his 'Ghost in the Shell' and 'Innocence' from going into the box. wink

Actually, at the moment, the taiko festivals of BSG are the most fun for me. I also have an itunes list called 'nice music is what we need', where all the fun, nice music goes.
Some fun scores for me: The Upside of Anger (Desplat), Ratatouille (Giacchino), The Majestic Minor (Javier Navarrete)
However it could be said that I don't listen to enough music purely for the fun of it, and maybe I'd be less of an emotional basket case if I did. Sometimes all this heavy stuff just weighs you down.

    Some more for the box:
    Cold Creek Manor Mike Figgis
Beaumarchais the Scoundrel Jean Claude Petit
    Desperate Measures Trevor Jones
The Sound of One Hand Clapping Cezary Skubiszewski
The Long Walk Home: Rabbit Proof Fence Peter Gabriel
    Heart of Midnight Yanni
    Magic Fire (Wagner, Korngold arranged)
In the Mood for Love (2nd copy) Shigeru Umebayashi
    After Extra Time Michael Nyman
Orff: Carmina Burana (Zubin Mehta) Carl Orff
    World Trade Center Craig Armstrong
    Hell Cyrille Aufort
An Awfully Big Adventure Richard Hartley
    Outbreak James Newton Howard
    Contact Alan Silvestri
    Heaven Hell Vangelis
For a Few Dollars More (original album) Ennio Morricone (I have an expanded release)
The Goddess of 1967 Jen Anderson
Film Music by Ennio Morricone (1 disc comp) Silva; City of Prague Phil
    Choreography Vanessa Mae
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (spare copy!) John Williams
    Shiner Paul Grabowksy
    Last Flight Out Bruce Broughton
Constantine Klaus Badelt / Brian Tyler
Final Fantasy X: Piano Collections Nobuo Uematsu

And one which didn't go into the box:
Hamlet Compilation (Walton / Doyle / Morricone / Shostakovich / Tchaikovsky) compiled by Thomas Kiefner wink

    No fun lost there!

Fans of the games (and there are many of them) inevitably become fans of the music as it plays a big part in all them. I like some of the live concert stuff, but I'm rarely in the mood for Japenese game music. It all sounds... very similiar.
  6. Some favourites take the fall today

    The Lion King Hans Zimmer
    The Dish Edmund Choi
Le Papillon Nicolas Errera (not to be confused with one of the greatest scores of all time)
Mulan (official album) Jerry Goldsmith (I do however have a less official album, with more music)
    The Governess Edward Shearmur
The Art of the Armenian Duduk Djivan Gasparian
    Metroland Mark Knopfler
    Vidocq Bruno Coulais
The French Lieutentant's Woman Carl Davis
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland / Petulia John Barry
Before Time Could Change Us Paul Grabowksy
    beDevil Carl Vine
    Joe 90 Barry Gray
    The Bone Collector Craig Armstrong
    Devil's Advocate James Newton Howard
Run Lola Run Tykwer / Klimek / Heil
    The Siege Graeme Revell
    Return to Neverland Joel McNeely
    Mrs Doubtfire Howard Shore

I am in fact now listening to some of these for the first time in years, made possible by their recent ripping to the hard drive.

Alas Tim, I knew this choice was not for you. I do agree however, PETULIA is very good, but I'm too ashamed to have ALICE be picked up off my shelf by someone. It is after all, the one on the cover! But PETULIA will continue to get airplay from me, fear not. smile

I feel we should get to vote and/or make counterarguments, and then Franz will be forced to put on display those scores we like!
