Its quite simple. See, many people here talks or discuss about famous scores. For e.g, if i ask about John Williams' scores, you would say Star Wars or Harry Potter or Jurassic Park or Jaws, but there are other works of John Williams, which is also quite good. I haven't seen people talked about this particular score Stanley & Iris. That's why i was so curious to know about how many of you do own this score. It seems that i have made my point clear.
You bring up a good point, Sunil. Scores like Stanley and Iris, Presumed Innocent, Sabrina, The Accidental Tourist, Stepmom, etc. don't get a lot of play around here. Those smaller, more intimate departures by Williams seem to get devoured by the likes of the Star Wars, Indy's and Jurassic Park's of the world. I will say that some of scores listed above aren't as engaging as the big blockbusters by Williams but that's not saying that there isn't great music to be found in those scores. I for one absolutely adore Sabrina (great themes and wonderful jazz arrangements) and Stepmom makes for a nice, relaxing listen especially when I'm in the mood for some classical guitar inspired music.
Stanley and Iris isn't one of Williams' greatest works but if there are some out there that want to hear Williams take a departure from his more bombastic side then Stanley and Iris showcases that Williams can tackle subtle drama just as well as creating ground breaking action material for the next Spielberg blockbuster.
Sunil, thanks for bring that Stanley and Iris in this discussion and hopefully this will inspired some of our MT followers to check out some of these smaller scores by the Maestro.

Have anyone own this score?
You can't just go around making up film titles you know.
My dear Steven, i think you badly need medication or i do recommend you to meet some spiritual leaders. May God cure your brain malfunction.

But what about the children? WON'T SOMEBODY THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!? -

Stepmom is one of my most-listened to albums. Such a [near]perfect album for relaxing to, it has helped get rid of many a headache! Most of my Relaxation scores are predominantly Williams and Horner... and funnily enough, no Goldsmith. Strange that.

There is: it's called Stepmom. The majority of the softer moments to JNH's Shyamalan scores are relaxing in timbre, and it certainly does the trick as a background listen, but it's not as relaxing in tone as something like Stepmom or, for example, The Spitfire Grill. These kinds of scores certainly win as some of the most relaxing whole albums, which certainly can't be said of a JNH-Shyamalan album! -

I'll check this one then; the more I listen to patrick Doyle's music, the faster he's joining my favourite composers. I've listened a lot of his scores recently.
Please do. Do not be put off by the stupid title. Wah Wah may be my favorite Doyle score. It's pure beauty throughout. The film is a historical fiction type film about imperialism in Africa if memory serves. It's a British family's story, so there are no Africa influences in the music. The score is just BEAUTIFUL, though. Southall has a nice review of the score over at moviewave if you want to check it out: http://www.movie-wave.net/titles/wah_wah.html -

Hans Zimmer (and co.) - Tears of the Sun
Very good score, though written by half of Santa Monica, I guess
. Zimmer's tracks like Carnage, Kopano and especially Cameroon Border Post border on amazing though.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

NP: Stanley & Iris - John Williams
The discussion above has inspired me to give this little gem a listen. Williams crafts a charming melody in the open track and delivers playful little tune in the second track, "Reading Lessons." And there is yet another NEW melody which opens up the light and breezy "The Bicycle" cue... a bit of The Witches of Eastwick can be heard in that cue.
The score is dominated by soft strings, delicate piano and flute. The albums zips by at just under 29 minutes. A perfect lazy Sunday score if I've ever heard one!

I agree. Those score are may not greatest works of Maestro, but i still adore those scores. Sabrina is one hell score i have ever heard. Its quite saddening to see some of the best scores of JW have been underrated. Just like Sabrina, Stanley & Iris, Accidental Tourists, Sleepers, Nixon and heart beeps. The only score i don't like is War of the Worlds. I find it boring.Racism, Prejudices and discrimination exists everywhere. -

NP: Heartbeeps - John Williams
This is the score which i expect everyone should listen to. This is so unique. You will definitely find different John Williams in this particular. This score contains lot of synthesizers and keyboards than traditional orchestration, this is quite unusual to find in John Williams' style of composing music. Even then, i strongly recommend to JW fans to try this one and you will certainly feel different about this score. The movie was actually released in the year 1981. Crimebuster is my favorite track.

Crap. I could list the many ways this score (and movie it accompanies) stink to high heaven. "Infinite White" is a blatant ripoff of Debney's superior Stoning of Soraya and Zimmer's Gladiator, and "Einstein's Wrong" is just a rearranged version of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. And that theme -- it was utter crap in the first film and it hasn't improved any.http://unsungfilmscores.blogspot.com/ -- My film/TV/game score review blog -

Well, you most definitely need to elaborate on that one because I find it to be one of the most interesting Williams scores written this decade. Raw, aggressive, and non-thematic which goes against everything Williams has brought to us since the beginning of time!

Interesting that you praise the synthesizers, keyboards and the non-traditional elements yet your favorite track is quite possibly the most traditional (mostly orchestral) that Williams wrote in the score.
