I'm familiar with Wes Montgomery, good stuff! cool

NP : 3 VIEWS OF A SECRET - Jaco Pastorius

Superb album from the late bass playing genius, tuneful melodies and some big band arrangements, the album also includes the assisted talent of Toots Thielemons, especially on the title track of the album which, IMO, is one of the best 'feel good' tracks I have ever heard.

    Have you heard this Tom?

  1. Today:

Ralph Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending

A beautiful soothing piece that always does something to my heart. The writing, the way he wrote the violin solo (he didn't give it a time signature or divide it into bars to give the soloist a flow of his own). Just masterpiece.

Mike Oldfield - Music of the Spheres

It does help that my London host and my best friend, Richard, owns an Oldfield fansite. He got me a lot into Oldfield and this one has for purely emotional reasons become a very personal album for me. Also intimate and soothing, even in its most intense and even epic tracks.

    NP: BERLINER MESSE (Arvo Pärt)

Some very haunting choral harmcnies, even though the modernism of it prevents it from going all-out "religious sound" that I like so much.

While the Concerto Macabre, a piece that Herrmann wrote for the film Hangover Square, is a soundtrack, I still feel that it should be put into the category of classical. Watched the film last night in spite of the nonsense from DVD player.

Here's the first track from the album, this is a live version and UK residents of a certain age will remember it for being used as the theme to Channel 4 rock & pop show The Tube hosted by Jools Holland and the late Paula Yates.

    STAR CYCLE

Thor might recognise from it's style who wrote the piece wink

Here's the last piece from the album, a very reflective and beautiful piece of music, not for nothing is the man recognised as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time.

Well, I didn't have to guess as the composer appeared in a title onscreen. But yeah, I think I would have caught it anyway. It's got Jan Hammer all over it, especially the bass line. Hammer in Mahavishnu mode, that is.

NP : ECCE COR MEUM - Paul McCartney

    A classical work by Paul McCartney? At £2 I couldn't go wrong....could I?

I'm pleased to say that this work won me over, a very spiritual, choral work that's very melodic, I'm glad I bought this and this'll get more plays in the weeks to come.
