Jesus... Cocteau Twins... Depressing stuff...
Not at all, it's brilliant, can't understand a friggin' word that's sung either, music that's kind of a cross of Siouxsie & The Banshees, Joy Division ( oh, hang on!? ), Kate Bush and all mixed on opiated magic mushrooms, it's weird, wonderful and unique, complex pop ( though 'pop' isn't the right term ) at it's inventive best.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

How did RVW #2 sound?
I'm far from an expert when it comes to recordings, but the Chandos/Hickox version is stunning. One of those CDs you can use as a true test for any set up. -

Cocteau Twins features Elizabeth Fraser, better known to film score fans for her vocals on Shore's LOTR:ROTK, she also did vocals on Massive Attack's Mezzanine which is why I mentioned it to D.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

If like me you're strapped for cash, studio headphones are a great alternative to hefty expensive speaker set ups. (As long as you've got a relatively decent amp to power them.... so yeah, it's still not cheap!) -

In that case, the pair that I use come very highly recommended:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD59 … amp;sr=8-1
If you're using them for indoor use, open headphones are the best option I'd say - much nicer and more open sound!
If you're not that nerdy or anal about your sound quality, there's probably little point in opting for anything more expensive like the HD600s or the HD650s... but then I've never used them, so I can't compare. Though I'm sure others can recommend more headphones. -

I've got some studio headphones (Beyer-Dynamic), but can't use them much anymore due to my damn tinnitus. However, there's no denying that they used to allow me greater possibility to delve into the music.I am extremely serious. -

Well, many people live in apartments, but that doesn't exclude speakers in and of itself. It may exclude playing music LOUDLY on them, of course (if you want to live in harmony with your neighbours), but that's not something I necessarily crave anyway. Play it loudly, that is. I DO crave living in harmony with my neighbours.I am extremely serious. -

Paul Dessau did a CD of works which I'm listening to but having a little bit of trouble getting into. Dessau did do a bit of work for Universal on the horror films of the 40's.

MASSIVE ATTACK - heligoland
Few others who ever toyed with trip hop / dub / electronica ever came close to what this band, Lamb, Portishead and (partly) Faithless have succeeded in. This album is so musical it puts many other "popular" artists to shame. Groovy, mature, colorful and perhaps the most lighthearted album of the band in years, heligoland's a gem. "Paradise Circus (Breakage's Tight Rope Remix)" put every other dance song of the year to shame, by far.
Ever heard any Cocteau Twins, D?

Well, I've tried two of their CDs now, and it's exactly that estranged type of alternative 80s sound I find incredibly depressing. Glad my memory didn't fail me...not too happy to have tried this on a day where I don't feel entirely up to facing the world anyway.
Desperately need to find something to lift my spirits, 'cause I'm sinking into a very murky, dark funk here.

24 tracks in 54 minutes.........it's like a Thomas Newman album
It's a fabulous work comprising English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh and Cornish folk tunes with each piece fully realised and orchestrated, one of my favourite works by the composer.
