    Then you must love...

    THE VERVE - URBAN HYMNS

Their break-through and break-up album. They've since reunited but this was a stupendous album in the day, getting it off with the song that everybody knows by heart: 'Bitter Sweet Symphony'. Every tune is an ode to music, rock music in general and can I just compliment the most incredible vocal chords owned by Richard Ashcroft: he just sends shivers down the spine with the incredible 'The Drugs Don't Work', 'Lucky Man' and 'Velvet Morning'. This is a five star album in my book and definitely a CD I would take with me on an island.

Very, Tom, VERY! I wholeheartedly recommend you seek it out. It's a Ballet but RVW didn't like to call it a ballet so changed it to 'masque' ( no idea why? ).

It was dedicated to Sir Adrian Boult who recorded it on four seperate occasions.

Something well out of the box for me but in the last 24 hours I've wanted to listen to jazz. I've picked out Hubert Laws and his jazz flute rendition of Rite of Spring with Bob James assisting on keyboards. Incredible!!!

Someone here mentioned that they had seen these guys live (my memory fails me here but I think it might be Tim). I can imagine they'd put on a spectacular show.

NP: Empty Room - Zack Hemsey

So far, so good. Didn't think that this would be a hip hop album. I enjoy the instrumental backing very much, with its very beefy, Timbaland-esque percussion loops, crossed with quasi-world music styling. Very nice.

  1. Yes it is. I listened to the clips of this when I read who'd done the trailer music for Inception. Sounded bad to my ears. But he's done an instrumental version of "Empty Room" that's used in some trailer. And it's available over at the same place I linked in my comments over at the Hans Zimmer thread.

It's not all hip-hop. But at least 4-5 tracks are hip-hop in nature. The beats on all the tracks are very well produced though. It's worth at least one listen. Good for background listening while working, I think.
