Yes, I knew that, but as I know nothing about the film it doesn't mean much to me.

Don't worry, I won't be put off by any one particular piece or symphony.

NP: SYMPHONY NO. 38 - THE "PRAGUE" SYMPHONY (Mozart)

Mozart never gets old. Love it. This is one of the symphonies with most "pizzazz", I think.
    I am extremely serious.

NP: FOOD FOR FEET (Food for Feet)

A little bit of latino-style grooves, a little bit of uptempo ska, a little bit of....well, Oingo Boingo, I guess, since this is a spin-off band. Quite good.
    I am extremely serious.

NP : INCANTATIONS - Mike Oldfield

originally released on a 2 LP set this fits nicely on one CD, possibly my favourite Oldfield album, combining orchestra with electric guitars, mandolins, choir etc, very melodic and utterly mesmorising.

I think I have a track from that on a compilation - a quite percussive track?

  1. I got to listen to a lot of Mike Oldfield during the trip to London (will write more about it, but I don't remember in which thread, got a lot to say though. My host co-owns a fan site that Oldfield himself knows of, the name being tubular.net

I listen to almost all of the albums from the early period until he started to do songs (the only one being around the song period was Amarok) and I do love the guy. At first time I didn't quite like and get into Tubular Bells (slightly too raw for me), but finally got to know what it REALLY is (always turned off around half-time in Part 2), my favourite album (I've known for years) was always Ommadawn.

I have a friend who hates Incantations. I love it.

I have the same compilation, Thor, I find some of the choices a bit baffling, obviously it's my opinion but they could have chosen better, and that small section from INCANTATIONS, though nice, isn't representative of the whole work which is split into four parts, you really should check it out, some of it is quite epic.

    NP : Some 1980's Electro-Pop Compilation

Mel's compilation, features stuff from The Human League, Soft Cell, Gary Numan, Howard Jones, Duran Duran, ABC, The Eurythmics and loads of other stuff, some of which I love and some of which I hate with a vengence.

To listen to the 1st Symphony of Rimsky Korsakov is misleading given the fact the opus is #1 and was written at the age of 17. What you don't know is he revised it 20 years later and changed the key. So it is and isn't his first work.

having a listen to Rachmaninoff's Youth Symphony, written three years before his first symphony. Pretty simplistic.

It's a lovely work but the best music ( IMO ) for a P-51 is John Williams Cadillac of The Skies.

    Williams ftw.

As far as I know those are the only two pieces I know that involve P-51's.

There may be more music for the Spitfire? First of The Few by William Walton, Reach For The Sky by John Addison and I suppose you could also count Ron Goodwin/William Walton/Malcolm Arnold efforts on The Battle of Britain.

NP: THE SENSUAL WORLD - KATE BUSH

Sublime. Less of the weird (by that, I mean no songs about rubber bands or washing machines) and more of the beautiful. Does it for me.
