Casino Royale is a cracking album that's great fun from begining to end plus it features one of the best songs of all time! cool

I will not be posting a clip of this one in the Morricone thread to demonstrate his genius.

  1. CE3K (Mr. Williams)

    REAL FILM MUSIC MAGIC !!!

The 1998 Arista album. It always astounds me how fast this CD goes by. This is one of my all-time faves by Mr. Williams, need I say more?

Yes I do!!! What he did with choir in this one is nothing short of breathtaking. The dark, creepy stuff is equally impressive and I love the whole build-up towards the finale. The final 10 cues always get me soaring right up there with Roy Neary. Fantastic score !!! punk

I Am Legend - James Newton Howard

A rarely mentioned Howard score. And not a bad one. There are some insignificant tracks, where I can hardly discover any melody, but tracks like "Epilogue", and some others are fantastic.

Not a bad one is underrating it, imo. It's one very mature and melodic effort by Mr.JNH.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

NP: White Fang 2 (promo) - John Debney

Quite overlooked, but a very fine orchestral score.

It's one of my favorite Debney scores. Although I challenge everyone to think of a movie about wolves that has a bad score. They all seem to have good scores (same goes for most dog films as well).
  2. NP: Un Prophete (Desplat)

Typically strong work in the tradition of THE BEAT MY HEART SKIPPED and L'ENNEMI INTIME. (And LES CORPS IMPATIENTS, as Bhel said the other day.)
I think Desplat does with genuine compositional skill what Zimmer more casually attempted in BATMAN BEGINS. (The slow emergence of a personality for the main character over the course of a score, using fairly slender motifs.)
    'Gunfight' is great.

Out of 10 there isn't enough numbers to rate it.

Quite similiar to CE3K, but made in a day when abbreviations weren't so popular. I miss those days.

NP: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Williams)

I don't know why some people prefer this over Crystal Skull -- aside from "Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra" and "Finale & End Credits", it's a wash for me. I don't particularly care for the movie itself, so maybe that has something to do with it too.

One of the best animation score by Alan Silvestri. I just adore this one. beer

Ludovico Einaudi - Luce Dei Miei Occhi

It's been a while since I listened to this so I played it earlier today. As with most Einaudi scores this is very subdued. But when it does breaks out into a prominent theme it's simply delightful. Not a score that I'd return to often. The movie was quite confusing.

Played in the last couple of days...

    Pino Donaggio - Body Double
You know that bemused feeling when Intrada puts out an 'obscure' title (like those of Richard Band or Jay Chattaway) and there are numerous posts in film score messageboards about how it was their holy grail and that they ordered it on the spot? I could never understand that sense of elation over things so obscure (it didn't help with the music clips sounding just ok). Well, I finally know the feeling! Pino Donaggio's score for Body Double was my holy grail since I first saw the movie 4 years ago. I love the movie to pieces. What DePalma & Pino did with the opening (that gorgeous love theme) is one of my favorite film music moments.
While I'm thrilled that we finally get to hear that love theme in the expanded release, this was not the sort of score to go C&C (to borrow Thor's terminology). There's certainly some good material but there are a bunch of tracks with dated electronics stuff that somewhat ruins the listening experience. This would have made an excellent album if coupled with something as a combo release.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN - JOHN WILLIAMS

Apart from Hymn to the fallen, i adore Revisiting Normandy. Its really moving and heart touching one. smile

  3. The Five Sacred Trees - John Williams

As with all of Williams' concert work it has taken me a while to warm up to this but I like it more with each listen. Nice to hear the bassoon be centre stage and get to play something lyrical for a change. I particularly like the second movement 'Tortan' with the bassoon and fiddle dancing around each other.
  4. NP: Unbreakable (Newton Howard)

Haven't heard this in ages. It started playing on my iTunes after the last score, and I might just stick along for the ride. Compelling beginning.

    NP:The Golden Compass (Desplat)

    shame
  5. Because it´s a rich, thematic, massively entertaining score?

It´s a shame we´ll never know what Desplat had in store for us if his fantastic groundwork for the first part of the trilogy would have been expanded in parts 2 and 3.
