  1. Hans Zimmer - Drop Zone

One of his worse action score. I can imagine he had fun writing it, especially the guitar parts, but still, it's not too good. Only one good theme which is heard only once. Broken Arrow is MUCH better.

Pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism? My uncle had that till he had it removed. Never seemed the same after that.

NP: Finding Neverland - Jan Kaczmarek

Now this is something that fully deserved its awards. I haven't seen the film but it's a total delight to listen to on the CD, and I'm pretty sure it must've worked great in-situ as well. Good, very good!

I won't dispute their impact (though think you would have to say "pop music" and not just "music" for that statement to be reasonable) - I just don't like them as much as most people do. I do love some of their songs, but find other stuff not to my taste. Of their contemporaries, I think some of the things Brian Wilson did for the Beach Boys are quite a lot more impressive; and I do love the Stones too.

I am sure he is the only one having FUN with such a score...

As for the BEATLES, their impact in the whole pop culture was of vast proportions. That being said, i cannot sit down at home and start listening to their songs.

    ALEXANDRE DESPLAT - un prophete

Mysteriously charming, elegant and dark. Has the qualities of BIRTH and of course the similar, earlier smaller scores of the composer. A listen to which i have been returning very densely throughout the week.

I listened to some of it earlier and it indeed is lovely.

Honestly, I feel that unless some yet another Oscar juggernaut comes along, Desplat has a good chance of winning the Oscar this time. His latest output has been gorgeous.

Perhaps, but somehow I doubt if that would be nominated for a Best Original Score award (of course, just guessing). I meant some last-minute critic magnet like Slumdog.

They've produced some very catchy songs, but some of them sound awful. I don't see what's so special about The Beatles compared to the many other great bands out there? (Past and present.)

I'm just sick of hearing how wonderful and amazing The Beatles are. sleep

    n.p. CLINTON SHORTER - District 9

Very Zimmerish but not bad at all!

Is the cue that uses the same samples Powell has in the Bourne films on the soundtrack?

It reminds me a lot of the Zimmer Batman material / BlackHawk Down and yeah, there's Powell in it as well. And a LOT of heavy percussion. Quite interesting, albeit unoriginal.

Indeed a quite good debut score. I think this one works better in the movie, which I'm looking forward to watching.

Me too. The score, although unoriginal, but not in the ridiculous / untalented Djawadi - Bates way, pays a fine homage to Zimmer, Goldenthal and even CLint Mansell at places.
