    Yes, and next to AVATAR, it's one of the best uses of 3D I've ever seen. The opening, in particular, gave chills down my spine.

  19. But those 3D IMAX experiences you talk of are completely different to a narrative film are they not? For those IMAX films you are having the wonders of nature being laid out before you - like you were looking out a window into the universe.

    I agree with Gilles.

    Especially in the case of the lavish nature documentaries produced by BBC etc. They almost use fiction film techniques to tell the 'stories' of whatever animal they're showing.

    Either way, I agree IMAX 3D is great. Having seen several forms of 3D (converted or not, IMAX 3D and 'regular' Real-D 3D, active or passive glasses), the only times I was impressed with the technology was when I saw a filmed-in-3D feature in IMAX 3D, passive glasses. It's a huge difference as opposed to the regular theaters and a reason to say I'd only watch 3D films in IMAX, otherwise I definitely prefer 2D.

    However, sadly PROMETHEUS is only showing in regular 3D here in the Netherlands, so I'll see it tonight in Real-D 3D.

    Well, comfort yourself by the fact that it is -- as I mentioned before -- one of the best 3D films I've ever seen. So even if you don't like the format for regular films, I think you'll be impressed this time.

    Oh, I wasn't talking about 'regular films' versus 'documentaries', all films were fictional features, like Tron Legacy in IMAX 3D and TinTin, and Transformers 3 in 'regular' 3D. But your comments about the film are very reassuring (next to the rather negative Empire one) and I'm looking forward to that opening alone!
  25. I certainly hope that in Poland there will be 2D showings of Prometheus for the reason that I can't watch 3D due to my sight issues.

    Cool, Thor! Nice!

    I also gotta say, that Streitenfeld's PROMETHEUS score works in a great way, feeling like the maturity of a rooky to a fully fledged composer.

    His references to Goldsmith (horn theme, and a suspense motif on strings that evokes the original Alien one) give the film an appropriate mood, while his use of choir is careful, never overemphasized yet striking the right tone of wonder and dread, while adding new color to the franchise's musical palette. His channeling of Goldenthal in the action and terror sequences, meanwhile, is thrilling and the rhythmic suspense beats show his own character.

    As heard in the film, I am most certainly content with what he (and Gregson-Williams - for his theme is used quite a bit) did here, and I can't wait to revisit it on CD.
