    Indeed. Maybe they cut something out of Amazing Spider-Man for my emirates flight but I seem to remember seeing far more flags unfurling in the breeze in Raimi's films.

    To be honest I'm sick of these films. I couldn't make it through avengers when I tried to watch it. Somehow amazing pulled me into a story I already knew. I think it has to have been the leads cause I don't know that I'll go out of my way to watch superheroes duke it out just for its own sake again.


    I didn't like Avengers either.
    Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. Started watching "The Christmas Star", a 1986 Disney movie about a convict whom steals the Santa outfit from a prison-visting Santa. Two kids discover him and think he's the real Santa Claus. He pretends, and uses the kidsto find his half of stolen loot.

    Wish I could speak of Ralph Burns's score, but there was almost none.

    I started skimming through it and finally shut it off. What a terrible Christmas movie. It's heart was in all the wrong places and built upon those to make the plot.

    And my axe! Pretty much everything about it works, and works well. I felt (one of) the defining moments was the sweeping shot of all the Avengers in the final battle scene showing us exactly what they were doing, and not only that, but we cared what they were doing. Really well handled by Whedon. That's the major difference between this and the similiar end scene in Transformers 3; we actually knew what the characters were doing, and we cared about those characters. (Well, those of us who liked the film.)

    I give this one a 10 because it's all what it needs to be. Of course, you can't compare it with classics, but a movie which needed to be so much fun and eventually is, yes that gets a 10 from me

    Well, I finally saw it and blimey! What an over long, bloated po-faced epic this is. I'll take the high octane OTT ridiculousness of the magnificent AVENGERS over this every time.

    Apart from a few moments I didn't like Hans Zimmer's score at all. There are some people on FB having babies over this score, WTF are they on???

    oh yeah [spoiler]can anyone tell me why there's so much chatter going on when batman could have spared precious seconds getting rid of the nuclear bomb?[/spoiler] I wanted Mr.T to turn up and tell him to 'quit your jibber jabber fool'.

  11. I didn't like The Dark Knight Rises much at all. I was pretty bored when I saw it with the kids when it came out.

    I do like the "Honest Trailer" for the film though: asks many pertinent questions. wink

    I think, "Avangers" are great! I didn't have so much pure escapism fun in a long while.

    Batman: I need to see all three films again to really evaluate this trilogy. But one thing remains clear: My all time favourite "Batman" flick still is the 1989 one by Tim Burton.

    "I'm Batman!"

    Elfman fucking nails this scene... as he does with the rest of the score! But I love those pounding drums after the "I'm Batman" line and then the gothic theme is heard in full as he disappears into the night! A brilliant goosebumps moment! I never got THAT feeling in Nolan's films once.

    And your right, Captain. That finale is a beauty!

    Burton's films are great for what they are, but I also adore Nolan's take on the character. I thought THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was brilliant, although not quite up to the standard of its predecessor. Zimmer's score is superb too -- but mostly in context; not something I like to listen to alone.

    AVENGERS was good too -- in a totally different style -- but was often too 'strained' in its efforts at intrigue-making.
    I am extremely serious.

    Burton's films are completely different animals, look at the discussion on superman we had the other day, personally i'd take Nolan's vision over the old films anyday; i loved the third film too.

    I like Nolan's The Dark Knight and Burton's Batman and Batman Returns equally. Yes, they are told in totally different ways but there is much to like in all three films. As you can tell I'm not fan of Batman Begins or The Dark Knight Rises.

    THE EXPENDABLES 2

    The Expendables are deployed to NEPAL to rescue a hostage, this is no Nepal that I'm familiar with, absolutely stupid with odd geography, lakes that lead out to sea ( in a land locked country rolleyes ), no sign of 25,000 ft plus peaks, architecture the likes of.............. uhm

    'ang on Tim, reel yer neck in, this is THE EXPENDABLES 2, full of more muscle and testosterone than the WWF on a stag night with all 6 Rocky films, it's absolutely ludicrous but big on fun and self depracating humour, I switched my brain off and LOVED IT!

    Far more entertaining than Dark Knight Rises punk cool

    Yeah, same here. Loved EXPENDABLES 2, just as I enjoyed the first one.

    It will be an interesting 2012 list for me, with a film like that alongside stuff like Haneke's AMOUR and Dolan's LAURENCE ANYWAYS.
    I am extremely serious.

    Considering that I have absolutely no connection to 80s action stars, The Expendables 2 was one of the most boring films I've seen this year. I understand how its good for what it is, but it didn't do anything for me. Love the score though. Tyler is operating on a higher level this year.

    The only 80s action star I really like is Arnie. He's gotta be one of the most unique actors ever. Not that he's a good actor, but the accent, the hilarious sounds he make when he's struggling for his life, his flawless delivery of one-liners and the fact that he has starred in several fantastic movies (Terminator 1 & 2, Predator, Conan, Total recall and True lies) makes me a bit of a fan.

    Never connected to Stallone in the same way, though he's also kinda unique. Willis, I consider more of a 90s action guy. He has a certain appeal too, having starred in several good movies. Van damme, Lundgren and Norris have always been jokes to me, as I find pretty much everything I've seen them in to be worthless (except Bloodsport, which I thought had some charm). Jet Li and Jason Statham I wouldn't recognize if I saw them on the street.

    So my question is, how much Arnie do we get in Expendables 2?

    I don't think D ever said that. It was more dismay over someone else saying that Waterworld was JNH's best score.

    As for the Expendables 2 score, I thought it was okay....at least what I noticed of it.
