As it is looking now, we go for the hotel you and Jordi and Marcel are staying in, or if we find a cheaper hotel/pool combination.

It looks really chill though! I'm looking forward to it.

Is anyone else considering? Martijn? Alan? Bregje? James? Timmer? D? Stavi? ...

I highly recommend the hotel! It's schweet!

Make sure you bring a card, not to put drinks on, but to keep the air conditioner on when you're out of the room. wink

Nar. Not a big fan of Úbeda...there's literally nothing for miles.
    And it's far away.
I'd desperately need a driver's license for that venue. Maybe next year. smile

    Greatly depends.
If you want to do anything (and I mean anything) outside of -rather sleepy- Úbeda, whose main attractions are some excellent extra-virgine olive oil and some interesting glass and pottery works, a car is pretty indispensable.

However it is roughly 200 kilometers up from Malaga, so it's not necessarily cheaper.

Pottery works? Hmm. However awesome that sounds, I think we'll take the bus. I will investigate this weekend, though. There must be something near to do, a hike or anything, beautiful nature?

    Dear Festival Attendants,

After a final adjustment of the web site of the Festival, those attendants who tried to register have experienced some temporary problems for both the record and the confirmation.

This has been suitably revised and updated, so right now you can register and log-in through the Festival website:
    http://festival.bsospirit.com/es/index.php

You have to fill the online form to be correctly registered into the Festival. The link to the online form is located in the right box of the webpage, also through the top menu option "FESTIVAL" then on "REGISTRATION" and then "ONLINE FORM." Do not forget to read all the registration bases.

All members who want to register at the Festival, both those who have already done by email and those who do not, have to fill the online form completly, and then they will receive an email confirmation, for checking the provided email address.

Starting next Monday, May 10th, we will check all pending requests, so then you will be able to login into the private section of our website, only reserved for registered attendants. This section has special information and other staff you will find very useful.

Remember that this procedure is the same for those of you that have not paid any fee at this time. No need for immediate payment, but it is necessary to complete your registration.

If you experience any problems, let us know, to resolve it as quickly as possible.

    See you in Úbeda!

I assume if you are already registered you don't have to submit all the details again?

    No.
    Nothing.
    Trust me.
Miles and miles and MILES of olive tree groves.
    And sand.

Without a car, Úbeda is IT. You're stuck.

I drove over to the next town over once. Just to give you an idea of how much there was to do there...I didn't even get out of the car before turning back.

The thing is you have plenty of time during the festival to do some sightseeing. You might skip some of the activities you are not interested in to go for a walk and enjoy the city.

Well, some activities - like the masterclass for composers and musicians where you have to pay extra for - do not hold my interest to visit. So there will be, naturally, gaps to fill. And you want to at least get a sense of where you are. As long as the gaps aren't too big, walking around in the, erm, sand will do fine, combined with a few visits of the pool (especially when it's so hot). But the sightseeing will be done afterwards, in Madrid.

This utility was supposed to be working months ago to make registration easier. It hasn't been possible until now. So, if you had already done the registration, the only thing you have to do is to fill in the registration form in order to access the private area for attendants. It's nothing more than that.

I have chosen the B Sectorin the Seat Preference box.

  1. There's now always a bit of doubt as to whether flying is going to be an option until this Icelandic volcano stops!

I see now that some Spanish airports are now closed!

I hope that things improve for travelling.

True, it's something that keeps circling above us like some, er, dark eh... cloud. Although the worst seems to be over, it all still feels like, well, erm... a sleeping volcano on the brink of eruption. You never know what it's doing, and I didn't expect my last trip to be cancelled either. And then, when I thought it was all over, there are those reports of airports closing down. It makes you a little hesitant of booking, but then again, what are the odds?

Well, I know at least 4 people or couples who had to cancel a trip (one of which was a honeymoon!). It seems like a very unstable volcano and it's not planning to sleep anytime soon according to scientists.

So as I'm coming with family and paid all together do we need to register separately? (I will register but I don't see my 'rents doing it.) We'd still be together for the concert I assume?

I was looking at Ubeda from above with Google Maps and zoomed out.

It is true. It's in the middle of olive orchards. 100's of them. So peaceful.

What a lovely city it looks like.

Oh, it's a wonderful little town, with some of the finest renaissance buildings in the whole of Andalucia...but aside from that (and the truly fantastic olive oil) there's very little to recommend or actually do there.
So I hope the festival's schedule is pretty full!

For dinner I recommend the Navarro restaurant ("Meson Restaurante") on the Plaza del Ayuntamiento: great tapas both in the restaurant as well as in the bar. La Imprenta -highly praised in the Lonely Planet- has excellent (and rather fatty) food, but the service is a bit aloof and it's relatively expensive.
Stay away from Meson Gabino near to the city wall and the Puerta de Losal. It looks absolutely great and has marvellous atmosphere (it's sort of a cellar/dungeon) but the food is very so-so and the service terrible.

For fresh veggies and the best fruit you've ever had: there's a great indoor market if you pass the Puerta de Losal and walk on on the same street until you come to a plaza (can't remember the name now...). Open from about 9:30 AM. Ask in your hotel! It's the only way you're likely to get some vitamins while staying there. dizzy

I don't think you need to register separately. But if I were you I'd write your names in the 'Special Notes' box, just to remind them that you are together, so no mistake is made.

I didn't know you'd been there Martijn! Thanks for the tips. Is biking a good idea? Where did you stay?

We probably will visit Cordoba and/or Seville the days after the event. I want to see the mosque/cathedral.

  2. I see that Google Maps has a street view option for Ubeda.

I'd certainly recommend a visit the Alhambra in Granada (if that's not too far away.)

    We're planning the following:

    Sevilla (3 days) - Ubeda (4 days) - Cordoba (3 days)

Or something in between. Granada is the other direction, it would be too stressy I think. smile Perhaps something for the next edition! Alhambra is another mosque turned into cathedral?

No, the Alhambra is actually a palace (used to be a fortress, as its very strategic location suggests). It's exceedingly beautiful and peaceful, especially the inside Nasrid palace quarters. Mind that you need to apply for a visit several days in advance through the internet! Only a certain number of visitors is allowed daily, and the chances of getting into the inside palaces when you just turn up are next to zero.

Mind, the outside gardens, buildings and the rest of the fortress is nothing to sneeze at either!
The view from the watch tower over Granada is spellbinding!

Driving to Granada from -say- Cordoba (or Úbeda) will take about two, two and a half hours though...

It's been many years since I was there - is it from the watchtower that you can see holes/caves(?) in a hillside that were dwellings of some sort?
