I have to warn you though, neither of them are animated nor are they kids films.

I know. I know it's an animal movie featuring cute flying mammals.

I'd come across a whole bunch of albums online that featured new-ish audio adventures, and hunting through the tracks I came across a single music track featuring the original score to these (minus the original TV theme unfortunately.)

The audio adventures are quite good as well, I can attest to that.

    You like it? Seriously?
I can't stand it. Musical wallpaper. sad

And I very much disagree you should get both. They're way too similar: you heard one, you've heard the other.

I liked several cues when I watched the first movie.

I haven't seen The Dark Knight yet but I've heard sound of vacuum cleaner on a soundtrack radio station.

Either, I'd say, if you like it. None is better (or more distinct, or interesting) than the other.
So get the one you can get the cheapest, if you take my advice. smile

Miya, if you liked what you heard get it. It's modern and edgy, electronic but primarily sound design-ish which isn't bad per se, but many people seem to not like it. I love Zimmer's sound for Nolan, esp. in THE DARK KNIGHT.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

I'd say The Dark Knight is better and more interesting. It has the Joker's "theme", Harvey Dent's theme, it's darker, more intense and the action music is more fleshed out. I actually really enjoy this score. I'd get The Dark Knight, Miya.

Synths sound dated but I don't care! This has great melodies and action cues. (Love the flappter theme cool )

    NP: MASADA - Jerry Goldsmith

Came across this one while discovering new music on YouTube. Wow, what an excellent theme in what sounds like a fantastic score! So why does it also have to be out of print, rare and expensive? From the sounds of it, this just screams for a re-release, much more so than certain other current rereleased scores.

Thomas Newman meets Isham's BLACK DAHLIA. Dark, noir, moody, angry and trippy at places. A clever score with character.

  2. My Desplat survey continues with...

    NP: Birth - Alexandre Desplat

I'm about halfway through this score and I think I've heard enough of his music to now say that this is pretty much typical Desplat -- mostly quaint and old-fashioned but very much engaging. smile

This was the one which really made me fall for Desplat. I still think it's arguably his best (this, or The Painted Veil).

    KLAUS BADELT day today.

Die Jagd nach der heiligen Lanze
Very nice of him to release this tv score but it's nothing more than synth mock-ups and it mostly feels like a very long and incoherent composer sampler than an original score; contains some good ideas but the rest is filler that drags tremendously on CD and the sound quality / realistic qualities of the vst's aren't exactly the best.

    L'immortel
Dramatic and string-led, goes back-forth from one Badelt moody and slow composition to fragments from Puccini and other italian operas.

    L'arnacoeur
Much improvement here in comparison to the previous one. It's poor on ideas though as it continuesouly circles between a lovely, dramatic piano-led love theme escorted by some sentimental string passages (still haven't figured out if it's real orchestra or sampled) and on the other extreme, various funky-rock spy / action / rob-a-bank kind of short cues made up of bass, drums, guitars and a band-like atmosphere in general. Sounds fragmented but has some very good isolated pieces.

    SOLOMON KANE
Love it, absolutely love it. Badelt's own GLADIATOR / KING ARTHUR; restrained and mature, without over the top statements but overly dramatic and melodic at places with an excellent sound quality / performance. I think it's overlooked.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
