Always by N. Sato - Love the main theme and really enjoyed the rest of the score as well. Just lovely.
i really like his music. i haven't heard ALWAYS yet, but his scores from SWORD OF THE STRANGER, GINIRO NO SEASON, RYOMADEN or the CODE BLUE MAIN THEME are amazing. Perhaps no orchestral masterpieces, but all of them are fun to listen.
For some reason I'd thought Naoki Sato was a woman. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Quite an interesting, off-beat atmospheric and melancholic musical world he's created for the show.
Yeah, it's cool but it doesn't quite have the orchestral push that I think a show about vampires (among other creatures) should have...
I disagree.
Barr's score fits the feel of the show perfectly for me. In fact it creates a lot of the feel. There's a hint (but not too much) of location in the style he has chosen. And there's definitely a sense of weariness and unhappiness to the score that reflects the "life" of the vampires. Same thing (but to a lesser degree) in Goldenthal's vampire flick.
Also, isn't the cello one of Barr's instruments that he plays?
BTW, the music for the second season is just as good as the first. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

YEap, it fits the show's tone and atmosphere pretty well, as well as the location and its population.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I thought I recognised it from somewhere:
It can be found on X - Vol. 1, track 2 "Destiny". And the piano version is a lovely variant as well. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

I love the guitar version as well. The butt-kicking orchestral main theme version, the gorgeous piano version and the laid back guitar version are all very different arrangements, so they can be enjoyed as independent pieces.
Listen to this piano version, which imo is a better performance than the one on the official album.

I repent of my previous statements about this score. Much more in it to like than just the Phoenix theme.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

I remember loving the film, and the music is just sublime. The string theme is wonderful, and it maintains a timeless feel to it despite the light-hearted style.http://unsungfilmscores.blogspot.com/ -- My film/TV/game score review blog -

I guess I'm a bit more traditional in that sense. When it comes to vampires, Desplat's New Moon and Williams' Dracula are pretty much what I tend to think of first...
That said, I love love love the show!! I wish I had HBO... -

NP: New Moon ~ Desplat
I was in the mood for something darker and lyrical. Nothing better than Desplat for that.Whatever you gaze rests on,do not use your vision, but the eyes of your soul...She knows better... -

I love those scores too, but I don't think they'd be at all appropriate for True Blood. Love Barr's work on the show - agree with Alan's comments. -

Sounds quite good!
Why you didn't review Inception?
Are you scare to rate a Zimmer score with 5 stars?
Yes, very scared.
I didn't do it because I wanted to see the film first. And I ended up not seeing it. Maybe I'll do it before the end of the year. -

"The 13th Warrior" (Goldsmith)
The heritic speaketh: Jerry's use of chorus (this particular style) has to me always been poor (none of those bits will be featured in the suite(s).
Do you mean the way he uses the choir in the main title? I can't think of any other use of choir like that in his whole career. It's presumably inspired by Crimson Tide.
I've heard Revell's score a couple of times. I thought it was quite good by Revell standards (in his top three), but nowhere near as good as Goldsmith's on album. -

Hmm, I wouldn't say this Goldsmith score has Zimmer inspirations. If anywhere, I'd look for them in Sum of All Fears, which was temped with Peacemaker and Crimson Tide.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

The Russian theme and choral writing uses the same progressions. Maybe parts of the electronic usage (not the sounds, rather places he puts them in) are Zimmer-inspired.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

That would probably be why there isn't too much of the Russian stuff on album. (Mind you, I'm not sure SUM OF ALL FEARS' cliched Russian sound was very different from AIR FORCE ONE's.)A butterfly thinks therefore I am -
- CommentTimeOct 5th 2010
I've seen the film three times and don't remember the Russian music! I remember it in Air Force One and was astonished a compiser of JG's calibre would do something so clichéd. I guess he had the excuse of having so little time. Unlike the rest of the world, I'm pleased it's not on the album. -
