NP: THE TOWER - CHRISTOPHER YOUNG

Quite possibly the gentlest music I've heard from Young but it's absolutely wonderful - so haunting. Makes for a fantastic bedtime listen.

Finally saw Drag Me to Hell the other day and Chris Young's score is unbelievably good, a near-opus. The main theme for Alison Lohman is haunting in a way only Young seems capable of consistently producing, even for horror movies! What a unique talent the man is.

Been playing James Horner's The Karate Kid and much to my shock - it's actually very, very good! I never thought I'd hear another score of his with predominantly fresh material. But here it is - and what moving melodic material it contains too!

So true, it's beautiful...are you familiar with his Sweet November score? If not, prepared to be pleasantly shocked again wink

    Erwann Kermorvant: Big City

Big, adventure orchestral score, full of playful and lush melodies, lots of woodwinds and old-school John Williams-esque type of scoring.

Can't say enough about this score...brilliant main theme...elegant, restrained Desplat-style harmony...lush, Rombi-like sonic palette. One of the most pleasant surprises of the year for me.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

NP: At World's End (The Game) - Mark Griskey

Some interesting arrangements of classic PotC material, as well as some nice original action music. It's kinda disturbing that the synth arrangements of some of the themes from the original PotC sound more orchestral than the real orchestra that Zimmer "overproducted."

NP: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Óscar Araujo

Supposedly this game score uses a 120-piece orchestra and an 80 person choir. If so, that's impressive!
One thing for sure, this game score IS INDEED impressive!
Huge and quite epic much of the time.
The choir work is very good in a LOTRish kind of way.
    Great orchestration and well performed.
If you (like me) love huge, epic and grandiose scores then give this one a spin.
Spanish composer Óscar Araujo has produced a fantastic score here! cool
  1. The Ghost Writer - Guess who...

I just finished the movie...Desplat really wrote a funky main theme. I've never heard so many woodwinds doing such inventive playing.

Great rhythmic, gritty and relentless action score. And then a piece of great Americana like Unblocking Utah. One of my most favorite Giacchino scores.

Solid additional score for such a short amount of time to write. But then again a fart would have sounded better than Edelman's weak effort.

I love Edelman's score. One of the rare scores that's highly listenable from start to finish, with super catchy themes.

I'm glad someone enjoyed it. IMHO, it's amateur hour straight through with one okayish theme. When you put Edelman's music beside what came before it (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King) there in no doubt, at least in my mind, that Edelman wasn't up for the challenge. Debney was brought in to add some meat to the bare bones of Edelman's score.
