    NP : PAN'S LABYRINTH - Javier Navarette

    Superb score.

    Resolution 819 (Morricone)

Dark, somber, militaristic and not an easy listen. The cue "Clara" is a real gem though. There are a few other highlights, but it's not an album I enjoy greatly. Perhaps it will grow on me.

    My rating: ***

The chronicles of Narnia: The lion, the witch and the extremely long movie title (Gregson-Williams)

A great listen with entertaining themes. Not a dull moment.

    My rating: ****

Now, on to my first listen of Prince Caspian...

NP : LIVE AND LET DIE - George Martin

This is just great, probably my favourite non-Barry, Bond score.

I just finished my half marathon (don't know my time yet), and this year I decided to leave my iPod on shuffle instead of listening to Independence Day or one of the Lord Of The Rings scores which I've done previously.

Highlights that kept me going included:

"Bridge Battle" from Mission: Impossible 3 by Michael Giacchino
"Black Widow Kicks Ass" from Iron Man 2 by John Debney
Various cues from Human Target by Bear McCreary
"The Suit" from Men In Black by Danny Elfman
"Decimation Proclamation" from Alien Vs. Predator - Requiem by Brian Tyler
"Warehouse Escape" from Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull by John Williams
"Threat Mix" from The Matrix by Don Davis
"End Credits" from Independence Day by David Arnold (I left it playing for nostalgia's sake)
"Barry's Kidnapping" from CE3K by John Williams
"The Bank" from Spider-Man 2 by Danny Elfman
"The Magnificent Seven Suite" by Elmer Bernstein
"John Drops In" from Mr. & Mrs. Smith by John Powell
"Theoden Rides Forth" from The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers by Howard Shore
"Massive" from The Expendables by Brian Tyler (a real adrenaline boost at a time of need)
"Greatest Journey" from Halo 3 by Marty O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori
And finally "Bull Run" from Knight And Day by John Powell when, being the pessimist I am, thought I would get something lame come on when I ran into the stadium

    cool but lick and sleep

The Tailor of Panama - Shaun Davey

An infectious Latin flavoured spy score.
Revenge is sweet... Revenge is best served cold... Revenge is ice cream.
  1. Well done Anthony. I only dream of being able to run that far! I've always been a sprinter rather than a long-distance* runner.

*Definition: "Long-distance" is anything over 200 metres

  2. NP: The Deal - Largo Winch (Desplat)

Very rhytmic. I like the string ostinato at 1:19 which is part of Melina's motif (it's a motif because is a fragmented melody)

    Today i played:

MARK ISHAM - fly away home

One of the classic modern scores. Excellent in all aspects.

    HARRY GREGSON WILLIAMS - apassionada

Those not familiar with this small romantic and melodic gem, will be surprised it's actually by HGW. Wish he did more of these independent little treasures, kinda like Badelt, instead of the same and same all over agan.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  3. You surely mean PASSIONADA? One of my favourite HGW scores.

Not one of the best scores of 2010, but pleasant listen in its own right.

This year I was aiming for 2:35.
    I did it in 2:14.

  5. NP: Kells Destroyed - The Secret of Kells (Bruno Coulais)

The violin solo is wonderful, same thing with the chorus and the magical middle section,

A half marathon? Holy crap! I wouldn't even be able to do a 32th marathon... unless they served sausages and beer at the finishing line.

NP : Ip Man - Kenji Kawai

    First listen ...
    Loving it so far ...
"Simplicity is the key to brilliance"
  7. NP: The Bomb Detonates - 24 (Sean Callery)

Of all the music of 24, this cue is what it needs most a re-recording. Impressive.

    Pane E Liberta - Ennio

Some fine moments, particularly the opening "Quella Estate" theme; I even like the suspense piece, "Dissenso", which contains hints of the rhythmic motif from Sostiene Pereira.

For me tracks 7 (Pensiero vivo) and 8 (Fisarmonica) are the real standouts in this score. They blow me away every time.

NP: ON THE BEACH - CHRISTOPHER GORDON

A superb score from a composer who really should get more exposure in the film-scoring world. If I were to direct a film (or organise a major international sports event) I'd be mightily tempted to hire this guy. Such a talent.

NP: P.S. I LOVE YOU - JOHN POWELL

Like all romantic comedy scores, it's light, fluffy and totally inoffensive but so enjoyable and pleasant to listen to. I like it a lot actually.

For me, definitely the best thing he's ever done; very solid all the way through.

Escape to Victory - Bill Conti

Another very, very fine Conti score with plenty of stirring moments - though it's funny hearing the 'nods' to Goldsmith's Patton and Pachelbal's Canon in it.
