NP: GOOD MORNING; AMERICA! (Hans Zimmer)

Very nice compilation of his early 90's stuff.
    I am extremely serious.

NP: POINT OF NO RETURN (Hans Zimmer)

Gobsmackingly beautiful score, even when it's going rock. Wish there were more like this.

Agreed, but I think the 30 ish minutes of the album is just right.

I like it too, one of those old-school Zimmers with simplistic but great melodies.

Can I also agree here? The Greatest Story Ever Told does have its high points but I do find it less enjoyable overall.

    Moliere - Frederic Talgorn

A quirky but mildly fun period score, with lots of harpsichord (oh joy).

There is a lot of quirky stuff in that score, but there are some really good cues. I particularly like the last presentation of the theme (track 23), but the best track, imo, is "Past Times, Past Lives." What a drop-dead gorgeous piece of music!!! I love it!

NP: La Ligne Droite - Patrick Doyle

Now I know what all the fuss is about!
It's wonderful! How can you not fall in love with it?!
May well be Doyle's best work!
  5. NP: The Train Leaves - The Secret In Their Eyes (Jusid/Kauderer)

I'm proud that our films can produce such a wonderful music. Very beautiful main theme.

Well, although it is repetitive and kinda reminds me of A Beautiful Mind I still love how well orchestrated and performed it is.

Best score of the year so far along with Jane Eyre.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Wonderful day, mostly spent sitting in the garden. Today's listening has been...

Come Un Delfino - Ennio Morricone

Fairly "standard" modern Morricone (not as good as Baaria) - pleased to hear something new by the Maestro! Lovely main theme.

    Rio - John Powell

Not quite what I was hoping for - was expecting more Latin flair. Still, a highly-competent and enjoyable score firmly entrenched in the traditions Powell has established in his animated scores.

    The Homecoming - Jerry Goldsmith

Lovely slice of Americana, quite fabulously enjoyable small-scale score.

Rascals and Robbers - James Horner

More of a mixed bag, with some beautiful parts, some bits curiously similar to his Star Trek scores, other less interesting parts.

    Wagons East! - Michael Small

Lovely western score, nothing that stands out, just genial, nice music.

Oh man, when I'm in the mood ( which is now ) this is fooking corking, mind blowing is not a term I use often but is 100% appropriate here.

    Yes!

I think The Matrix scores are just sensational. I'm pretty sure I did put them (collectively) near the top of my top ten when I did my favourite scores of the 2000s piece a year or so ago.

Maybe I'll do it and add it to the archive section of my site. I mean, it gives me an excuse to play Signs again! wink So now I have 5 shows to produce. Getting busy again but it good to be back in the groove.

  9. Copernicus Star - Abel Korzeniowski

The real highlights of the score are dealing with the large orchestral moments and the use of the operatic vocals. The weaker stuff is the somewhat mickey mousing of the comedic material. I still don't see where 'A Beautiful Mind' is in terms of track temp but oh well.

    Il gattopardo (Nino Rota)

The first three tracks is like a miniature symphony. It's really extraordinary music, right up there alongside the classical giants. The rest of the album consists of various dances, i.e. waltz, polka, mazurka, galop etc. These are fine as well and also sound like they could have been composed by some famous classical composers. The miniature symphony is where the album really shines though.

Listen to a short excerpt of the first track here.

    My rating: *****
