Slipstream is an incredible score and kudos goes to Robin Esterhammer of Perseverance Records for rescuing this gems that most thought would never see the light of day. IMHO, this is the soundtrack release of the year!

I don't like that they combine the suite into one long track. While the sound quality is much improved the presentation on the Dolby editions is far superior! But with the advances in digital technology I was able to separate the suite into 6 individual tracks to match the Dolby release.
-Erik-
I like that they tried to make a symphonic suite of it. While I certainly can't put it in the same class as a tone poem it was very acceptable to me.

Agents of Secret Stuff by George Shaw. This is a new release for him. I should comment that the first twenty tracks are from the film of the same name. The remaining tracks are bonus.

Well, just so you know: based on your first thoughts I added Slipstream to my cart over at SAE.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Well, the contents are identical so the way it plays is EXACTLY the same as before however when this is all mashed into one track I can't just extract my favorite part, cue, track and listen to it on it's own like I can on the Dolby release. That's the issue. But like I said I corrected the problem myself but I think it was a misake to make the suite one gigantic track.

Staccato - Elmer Bernstein
Excellent, excellent, excellent!
Thoroughly visceral jazz in a very Man With The Golden Arm like style (though with even more of a bite than that already pretty edgy score). Powerful work in the Bernstein vein I probably like best: uncompromising cool jazz. Fantastic work!'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Hehe, this one beats it. I love the brass in particular. This cue is so catchy and so much fun it's the perfect example of why I love film music.

NP: Slipstream - Elmer Bernstein
I'm loving this! Almost halfway through this CD and there's so much to enjoy on this one. Rousing and soaring action music, more reflective and emotional passages, some interesting orchestration...and I like how the Ondes Martenot has been incorporated into the score. Not too intrusive, appearing sometimes as the solo instrument and sometimes doubled up with the likes of strings, soprano voice, etc.
I'd heartily recommend this to everyone.

BTW, Bernstein's Slipstream delivered a great score right up to the final (and excellent) final 12-minute track.
That's great to know! Looking forward to when I'll put the disc in my player."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

I'm listening to some of this score at the moment and I'm struck again by how well Baños can tap into the whole Bernard Herrmann feel. "Blue Beard" is a track that has some subtle references to the quieter passages of the likes of Vertigo.
Absolutely. Have you heard his other 2010 scores?Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

The Specialist - John Barry
An overlong album but still a pleasant look at Barry's sleazy jazz writing combined with his standard dramatic approach in the 1990s.Revenge is sweet... Revenge is best served cold... Revenge is ice cream. -

Trail of the Pink Panther - Henry Mancini
Not exactly Hank at his best. Several entertaining parts but it's pretty disposable. -

Yeah, it could do with a bit of shortening. Lovely silky and, as you say, "sleazy" jazz writing but also some wonderful moody cues too, I particularly love the oh so subtle use of choir in 'Ray Meets May At Her Funeral'.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

For me it's the most allround enjoyable Matrix score, albeit in its 40 minute presentation."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

The Natural - Randy Newman
Listening to this score reminds me me of how much more I like A League of Their Own. But The Natural isn't bad by any means, with the big recognizable theme and such.Revenge is sweet... Revenge is best served cold... Revenge is ice cream.
