Back then music choices would be very limited. How much would be uploaded now.

Today we'd upload Junkie XL, causing the aliens to turn back.
  2. Maybe that's the plot of Independence Day: Resurgence! We turn away the aliens by playing bland Harald Kloser music at them until they realize there's nothing of value on this planet...
  3. Worked with Slim Whitman ...
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

The Odyssey list tries to offer music from all nations. Rachmaninoff is in good company because Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue wasn't included either

A new work to me is Lars-Erik Larsson's Second Symphony which was written in 1937. It is structured for only 3 movements and is somewhat melodic with good counterpoint.

NP: SIMPLE THINGS - Zero 7

One of my favourite albums. I don't listen to it very often so that it remains just as special. I have so many great memories of listening to this during my year out in Australia and it brings them right back. Balmy evenings on the beach during the final glimpses of warm sunshine. Beer in hand.

    Bliss.

    cool

I haven't listened to it for some time now. Same as you, I like to keep it special.

Timmer has been raving about that album for years. I remember sampling it on Spotify, and while I felt it was fine, it didn't do that much for me. But I'm up for another go.

Rimsky-Korsakoff Symphony no 1. This is his very first composition but that statement is quite deceiving in that what we hear today has gone through 4 revisions by the composer.

I've been raving about it just as much. It has a very personal meaning to me as I discovered it on just about the most perfect occasion possible.

Dvorak, his 6th Symphony in a new recording with the Houston Symphony. An outstanding first movement that immediately got my attention

  6. I'm only familiar with his famous Ninth. Tom, Robert, anyone, what other Dvorak symphonies would you recommend to a neophyte?

    Edmund,
There is so much more to Dvorak than his ninth. I would get this set which is pretty reasonable for 5 CD's
