    Yes, it's lovely.

I've mentioned elsewhere that I think we've been robbed of a new James Horner period where he was concentrating on concert works.

Meh! I don't get what the big deal is with that one.
    I am extremely serious.

    This, alas. sad

He seemed to have been going back to his roots, that wonderful sci-fi sound, while incorporating his newer style. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I think it largely began with Avatar. (He'd visited his 80s tricks prior to this, but Avatar was, I think, where it was actively encouraged.)
  6. I hear mannerisms from all over Horner's career in this. Also things that seem new to me. All is brought to a wonderful synthesis.

    NP: EXCALIBUR (Alain Simon)

Musical/prog rock concept thing with Celtic flavours. Simon has brought in a couple of prog rock legends in his project, including Roger Hodgson of Supertramp.
    I am extremely serious.
  7. The Best of Gerry Rafferty

Beyond his evergreen "Baker Street" Rafferty has never gained much prominence in Germany. This album show his fine talent as a song writer.

My favourite version of "Baker Street" is actually the instrumental one by LSO. One of the rock classics that didn't become TOO cheesy in such an idiom. I have no knowledge of Rafferty beyond that.

  8. Pas de Deux - Horner

Still. I like it more each go-around.

NP: APPALACHIAN SPRING - Aaron Copland

Beautiful Americana piece that has inspired countless film scores. Haven't listened to it in ages but, my God, Horner must have loved this.
  9. John Williams probably still loves it.

Well, Copland is the Americana sound, in this respect he has been hugely influential.

Williams loves it, Alan Silvestri loves it, Horner loved it, and countless others loved it. I love it too. The Copland Chord is always the first thing I play when I sit down at the piano.
  10. Copland Chord: Now, I had to google this. smile

  11. Lots of music my player lists under "the":

    The Tudors
    The Velvet Underground
The Star Trek Symphony (my playlist)
    The Waterboys
    The Beatles
    The Sting
    ...

NP : PLATINUM - Mike Oldfield

One of my fave Oldfield albums. Without knowing for many years, this album was also my first exposure to Philip Glass.
