So far this season I think they were tying up things in some kind of logical way (as logical as it can be when you play with time travel / time paradoxes) but with this episode they´ve pushed the envelope just too much. I mean it was minute 20 of the episode and I was more lost (sorry) than ever. So many characters involved, providing information and details one can´t simply assimilate / understand. This is, IMO, totally out of control. Probably the most confusing episode ever.
As I read in an article, "Here’s the biggest problem the show has going for it at this moment: it’s pretty much impossible to understand the true goals of Ben, Charles, and Eloise. As long as their purposes stay nigh impenetrable, we have no good way of ascertaining the meanings of their words or actions. And while I realize the show has to sustain mystery at a basic level until the end of Season 6, that lack of knowledge means that Daniel’s death sort of just hangs there for me right now".

See, that's what I don't understand. The true nature and motives of the Others (Ben, Richard, Jacob, Eloise, Charles) have always been one of the biggest mysteries in the show and have always been unclear. So why is this bugging some people now? I believe it's because we see a lot more of them now and people want all the answers right now! This cannot be done.
I am completely satisfied with the answers they are giving us so far. The Others took form from Season 3 onwards and since then a lot of things cleared up. They are not simple whispers or people hiding in the shadows. I remember that in the first couple of seasons it was all about the Losties and why each person did what they did. It's over for them now, we know their past. We know why each person acted the way they did. Then it was the Dharma Initiative. Now we know a lot about them too. Who they were, what they were doing. That there are different rankings and personalities in the DI.
Same with the Others too. Some are key figures. Others are more violent. Some seem to not age. We know a lot more about Ben's background and motives. Where he came from, what he cares about, what he doesn't care about. We know Charle's story. We have found out a lot about Eloise too. But we cannot have all the answers right now.
Things are clearing up though. Like we have been saying "Oh, this is why Ben and Charles are rivals" or "This is what happened to the DI" or "This is why the plane crashed" or "This is what the cable in the beach was about" or "This is why Jack acted in this way", one day we will be saying "This is why Richard does not appear to age" or "This is why Eloise left the island or seems to know about the future".
The nature of Lost has always been like that. I don't see why keeping mysteries and hidden motives is suddenly bothering people so much. Of course Daniel's death is bugging me. Especially the way he died. But at the same time, I wouldn't want Eloise or Richard to turn around in the last 2 minutes of the episode and say: "So, we always knew that Daniel would come back but we had to kill him anyway, because if we didn't then Daniel would become so clever that his brains would explode. End of the story! Next episode, we discuss Ben's cooking skills! Stay tuned!" -

You are right actually; it is a matter of patience. But they can´t expect us to be AS patient, I mean season 5 is about to end and they have only 17 more episodes to clarify at least the important stuff. And with episodes as "The Variable" they don´t help.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Seasons 4 and 5 have been progressing so fast compared to other seasons, that I think 20 more episodes are plenty to clear things up completely. -

To be honest, even at this stupidly quick pace, it's dragging!
I'm sick to death of finding out Ben is involved in another evil scheme.
That's why Keamy last season was so good - he was hardly in it, and when he was it was short but sweet. -

Probably best to stay off the Lost boards until the end of the season as apparently it's out who Jacob is. -

The next episode is called "Follow The Leader". I assumed with would either be a Locke or Sawyer episode, but maybe not...
...let's just say I'm waiting for a Richard Alpert episode. -

From the trailer, I judge its got to do with Locke. And I think it gives an idea on who Illana, Bram and the 316 people are... -

Ok.... so I didn't see the twist at the end coming... Although I'm guessing that John will do that to help Jacob. Remember when Jacob said "Help me"? I think this is what he meant...
Overall, a good episode. I was bumped out when I heard Richard say "I watched them all die". Especially since he was talking about Jack, Kate and Hurley - three characters which I consider "immortal" till the very end of the show. Kate has become too emotional and a bit annoying to be honest. She always gets in the way of things.
I cannot wait for the double finale in 2 weeks' time!!!

Where are damon and Carton? How Many episod they actually wrotte this season?
all the people has too much "additionals". Blame Zimmer for that!

Yeah, 5.15 was very good. The time travel thing has gone way over my head (like if someone is alive in 2007 but they die in 1977 then would the 2007 person ever exist? The whatever happened, happened rule applies, but surely if something did change in 1977 then the eventual future version of someone and their experiences wouldn't?)
And the MOH U-Boat theme came back! How cool was that! -

1977 is the PRESENT and NOT THE PAST for the Losties.
If Eloise or Charles die for example in 1977, then that's a problem, yes. If baby Miles dies, then yes adult Miles will simply disappear.
But if Jack, Kate, Hurley, Jin, Miles, Sawyer or Juliet die (like Daniel and Charlotte died) then this does not change 2008 or the future. They will still be born, get on flight 815, crash on the island and get transported in 1977 at some point where they will die. 1977 is their present.
Take Charlotte's example. She gets born on the island, grows up, Daniel warns her to leave, she leaves with her mother from the island, she grows up, becomes an archaeologist, finds the island, comes back and dies from the time shifts in an unknown time. Whether she died in 1977, 2008 or 400 BC. it does not matter. -

Just two questions that, although not in my priority list, I´d like the writers to answer:
1 - WHERE is Claire and WHAT is she doing? Not that I care about the character, not at all, but I don´t like a character to just disappear without a trace, it´s a very cheap trick.
2 - WHY and WHEN did Harold build the Cabin?Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Harold? I assume you mean Horace? And I don't know if he really did...wasn't that in some weird dream where Locke met him building it?
I cannot WAIT for douchebags Hootenanny Police and Ceiling Stain to bite the bullet (literally the case for one of them). -

Ok, guys I have a theory about Jacob - just a THEORY, not based on any spoilers:
The writers said in the past that names are important in the show. Jacob is literally the same name as Jack, so one could easily assume that they are perhaps the same person. However, there is also someone else whose name is also the same as "Jacob" and who has been known to pick up different aliases for himself over the duration of Lost? Sawyer, La Fleur, and God knows how many other names when he was a con. James is literally the same name as Jacob. As wikipedia confirms: "The name “James” is derived from the same Hebrew name as Jacob, meaning “holds the heel” "
