    HOOK - THE ULTIMATE WAR

My own cleaned up version, devoid of annoying bizarre loops, edits and an optimised volume level (to the best of my abilities). Work in progress, but getting there.

    EVEN MORE AWESOME!!!! beer

NP: Thomas' John Scott Compilation - John Scott

I had forgotten that John Scott wrote one of the best love theme ever for Anthony and Cleopatra so this has been a good reminder of that. John Scott has been one of those name that keep getting thrown around as a underrated/forgotten composer, I'm glad I have the chance to hear how good he is/was.

Ha good to know Thomas' work (and John's of course) is getting some spins. punk

hehe indeed, I expect to see a lot more of these in the next couple of weeks. smile
good to see you liked it LP smile

NP: Iron Man 2 - John Debney

Just listening to a few selections from this score. Nothing remarkable... very surprised that it sounds so much like Djawadi's weak effort for the first film. However, there is one BIG difference. Debney's Iron Man theme is dynamite! I've been listening to "I Am Iron Man" - a 90 second track - on repeat! Awesome stuff! I also like the fact that there is more of an organic orchestral backing to most of the meaty action cues!

    Galaxy Quest - David Newman

This hasn't aged quite as well as I might have expected. Still, it's a fun album and nice that it's been officially released at last.

It's the second best theme to have come out of the whole Marvel wankfest.
  2. "Klemania"

Instrumental album by Christopher Franke. No, I don't have it, listening to Youtube samples. I saw the CD for $2.99 in a Goodwill, and was curious to know.

    Don't care for it.

  3. Michael Giacchino - Medal of Honor: Airborne

I love it, a great score from the composer.

  4. "The Rocketeer"

Didn't hold up quite as well as I remembered.

The opening cue is a fine opening, but the love theme is a little weak. The circus cue is essentially semi mickey mousing -- here and there, crescendoing builds that are shakey -- cue that barely holds together.

The little swing cue is okay, but Williams did far, far better with "Swing, Swing, Swing".

I really love, for some reason, that simple acending theme in "Neville Sinclair's House"; I've heard it somewhere before -- just can't place it.

    Interesting review Justin.

I'll just grab some popcorn and await the replies!
  5. I'll prepare to give a damn!

Having said all that, it's still one of best, though now I would rank it below other top notch efforts.

NP: Your Highness - Steve Jablonsky

Finally saw this movie and I must say that I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. The score is kitschy fun in the movie, and changed my whole opinion of it on album.

Today I will fill the air with the sounds of Joel Goldsmith - Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, Kull The Conqueror, Moon 44, Shiloh, Witchblade, Star Trek: Nemesis and the score that I'm playing now... Diamonds.

    RIP Joel.

STARGATE SG-1 (DAVID ARNOLD & JOEL GOLDSMITH)

An awesome adaptation of David Arnold's epic themes, appropriate for today I think.

Go Joel, up there with Jerry !!!!! punk

  6. I have been listening to Joel's Stargate scores for The Ark of Truth and Continuum.

I agree with what you say, Gilles, that Joel's adaptation of Arnold's recognisable theme are excellent and I find that he usually incorporates the theme well into his own music for the franchise.

There's a hint of BRAINSTORM in that track, other than that I don't know.

Yeah, what a rockin' score to a not so rockin' flick.

Are there other scores in his discography that approached the same level of actiony goodness?

I was a bit underwhelmed by this. It didn't seem as rollicking good fun as some of the members here had said, though some cues are cool as ice!

This is true for me as well. Though I find that it's better to listen through the whole thing so when the good tracks come about, its worth it.
