Matt - We all have different opinions. You aren't going to like EVERYTHING I like and visa versa. And if I want to proclaim my dislike for a particular score here, elsewhere or in my bloody signature I have every right to do so. It's just a friggin' opinion. I'm not putting down yours or you as a person. What I do find interesting is that you have no issue with my new signature now which is far more offensive than my Harry Potter signature.

[EDIT: this was a response to Matt.]
Fair enough, although I have to wonder then why you chose to bring major issues like religion and racism into it. But hey-ho. You certainly have every right to feel offended. That is a choice.
Just as long as you don't blame your own sensitivity -which, I again hasten to confirm, you have a full right to: you feel what you feel- on the disinterest or lack of care of others.
Issues like these are dependent on discourse: the exchange of ideas and points of view, (hopefully) leading to mutual understanding and a middle ground. But they are NOT hinging on *entitlement*, no matter how offensive any one party finds opinions on opinions or tastes.
[EDIT: and for the rest: what Erik said.
We're all nice people, expressing nothing more than opinions. Not gospel.

I believe that if anyone in the world likes anything, then there is merit in it, if I only try to look at it from their point of view. Consequently, I attempt to refrain from expressing negative opinions in the company of those who might find my negativity deflating to their enthusiasm.
And obviously my views on what is and isn't offensive are...somewhat unusual.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

I don't choose whether I feel offended. I just know whenever I put on a score, the comments I've read about the score pop into my head and if those comments are negative it can lessen my enjoyment of the score. Whereas if I only remember positive comments it increases my enjoyment of the score. I'm sure the response to this will be that I should just like whatever I personally enjoy and ignore everyone else's opinion, but my brain doesn't generally work that way. I'm weird. Deal with it :P I don't expect anyone to pay any attention to my offendedness.
The religion and race thing were examples of things that other people are passionate about verbally attacking and defending. I'm not exactly sure where you draw the line between which subjects are ok to criticize and which aren't. I'd rather everyone just agree to not say anything that might rain on another person's parade. But, obviously that is never going to happen. lol.I love you all. Never change. Interesting. Ambient. Atmospheric. Meditative. New Age. Aurally sumptuous.

Matt, may I respectfully suggest you try and discuss whatever it is you want to discuss in an informed manner.
Just bandying silly fallacies and rather non-sequitur one-liners around really isn't going to impress anyone.
Much less convince.
(I honestly wonder from your statement above if you fully understand what a strawman argument actually is?)
You're the one who keeps trying to start arguments and blowing simple personal requests way out of proportion. I'm not trying to impress, convince, or otherwise debate with anyone. I would just like people to be more polite about scores and composers they don't like, rather than making authoritative negative like "X score is bad" or "Y composer is lazy and only in it for the money". It's offensive to me. If this community does not care whether members find such negativity offensive, then so be it. I don't really care. Certainly not enough to have a formal debate about whether I have an official right to be offended.
Martijn does all this? Boy i never realized he was such a bastard. I should have picked something up however when he started dissing Greece for E.U's fucked up financial policies and chaos. But as i am currently laughing at Holland's problems, i am thinking it won't take long 'till it reaches his white ass as well!

BTW, I said it "perfect..." in jest. Beside the few tracks where there's a focus on actual themes and melody, half/most of the album is a really good example of integrating sound design as an essential element of the score. Since I haven't seen the movie yet, I can't say whether it works or not in the movie, though I'm sure that, if the score wasn't working, we would have known it by now.
And speaking of TF, that whole trilogy of movie certainly proved to me that Steve does know how to create some good strong, if not "unique", thematic materials. -

I might have tuned out half way through. Tends to happen with boring scores.
To be fair, the only time I listen to scores is during work hour, so I might have indeed tuned it out if not much was happening.... -

As is so often the case with Horner, it becomes much more interesting in the second half. The 4 final cues are great stuff!"considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Fair enough Matt.
It's pretty much an impossible race to run: nobody is ever going to see exactly eye to eye on anything with other people. I think maybe the best thing to keep in mind is that no matter that a tone of voice may at some point push a wrong button with any of us, most (or indeed all) of the regulars here are basically good guys, who mean well, and come here for love for a certain medium.
And sure, tempers may flare, and heated exchanges may take place (as they will in all matters that concern the heart), but at the end of the day we are united in our basic interest.
And all we say is only ever our opinion.
...except for me, of course. I state fact and lay down the law.
(Seriously though: I could be a little more laid back at times as well, and I fully realise that)

Not to worry, dear boy.
After a full 24 hours of negotiation, there already is a national financial compromise with a balanced budget.
When we insist on people keeping their house in order, we sure as hell will do so ourselves.
My most sincere apologies to the south that it took us a full day.
That must have been an agonising wait for countries so keen on fast efficiency and clear vision.
Would you like some more salt and vinegar in that open wound?
Don't mind if I do.

Hans Zimmer - The Thin Red Line
Listening to it to calm myself down after a very exciting day. I didn't pass the second round of the season finale of the show I won, but the fact that I went there counts for a lot, I think. I actually am proud of myself.
It was just day one of series of intense and possibly exciting days. A conference (research duties) tomorrow and I start teaching classes this Saturday, perhaps the most compelling work I have to do as a PhD student (also part of research duties).
Great days. And I am awarding myself with the most personal score, in many ways, of my life.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -
