For Greater Glory - James Horner
At this point, I don't even care anymore that Horner repeats himself. Not when he writes music this good. -
- CommentTimeDec 24th 2012
You mean when he wrote good music 15 years ago and recycled it into his 2012 scores.

Well 15 years ago he wrote Titanic and I think I like this more than Titanic. -

Titanic > For Greater Glory. I couldn't get past the first track of For Greater Glory. Actually, I did... but I didn't want to.

In any case, is there any one here with a better grasp of Spanish than I do who can translate the lyrics? -
- CommentTimeDec 25th 2012
After I heard "For Greater Glory" beeing another "Best of Horner" compilation, I skipped that one. I must say though, I love "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "Black Gold" which I both found to be fairly original.Bach's music is vibrant and inspired. -

Wow, that's a great score! Had a listen to this last weekend as well. But the rendition at the concert (or the link above) is funkier. Been humming it since Saturday, amusing about everyone at the table yesterday (for a little bit)Kazoo -

I remember when that album was all the rave back in the 90's -- a soundtrack loved by many non-soundtrack fans as well, just like RESERVOIR DOGS, PULP FICTION, TRAINSPOTTING, Preisner/Kieslowski stuff etc. I steered away from it for that reason alone, but in later years I've obviously come to appreciate it for what it is. I've also had a renewed interest in Ry Cooder in general (as a film composer).I am extremely serious. -

Agreed. I wouldn't mind a recording of the concert version in my colllection!'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

You guys are too cynical and paranoid about Horner...there is no more repetition of old Horner stuff in For Greater Glory than there was between Horner scores in the 80s. It's a highly enjoyable score to me and it doesn't tread over the same ground as Braveheart or Zorro, just borrows elements from them and tweaks them into something new, like most composers do...even Williams.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

Hi Erik! Happy first Christmas in your new home for all of you there!
I listened to some very nice baroque brass Christmas music this morning (Ludwig Güttler Blechbläser Ensemble, Dresden.)
Then I proceeded with the comercial edition of "Fellowship of the Ring". I own the complete recordings of the trilogy but I never listen to them in their entirety. I merely use them as an archive (and they are collector's items, are they not?). I was once again impressed how well the comercial albums were put together.
(I still prefer the 1993 SW Fox edits to the 1997 version, too, as a listening experiance.)
I will now give "The Hobbit" another listen. While I basically don't mind the length of the SE I opted for a more condensed version for my flash player. So I fell back on your 20-cues-playlist and just created a folder according to it.
VolkerBach's music is vibrant and inspired. -
