    The A-Team - Silvestri

Most of it's a bit shite but Christ on a bike, "Flying a Tank" is one hell of an action piece.

Too right! You just inspired me to play this so I opened the album in my iTunes, most tracks have either 2 or 3 plays but 'Flying a tank' is sitting at 25 plays! Listening to it now, a stunner of a track.

NP : DEMOLITION MAN - Elliot Goldenthal

Nowhere near his best but it's still darn fine music and as a short album it doesn't outwelcome it's stay.

It's a really entertaining album. When the German journalist asked Goldenthal if he had ever done any comedies (film comedies) in that 2010 interview we did, and he said no, I mentioned "DEMOLTION MAN" somewhat jokingly and he had to agree with that. It's probably the closest he's ever been to a film comedy.

I guess Mr. Snipes doesn't think much of Wong Foo?

What Dreams May Come - Ennio Morricone

I feel great pity for anyone who is not currently listening to this score, because whatever it is they're doing instead simply can't be as good. FACT.

We talked to GOLDENTHAL, lp, not Wesley Snipes. Interviewing Snipes would have been a treat, though. smile

DAMMIT THOR!!!! YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE IT MORE CLEAR!!! LIKE WATER!!! moon

I swear, the first time I read the comment, I knew you were talking about the Goldenthal. But, when I thought about Snipes and comedy, everything got messed up. Can't multi-task and think anymore.... tongue

A Good Day to Die Hard - Marco Beltrami

I'm an admirer of Beltrami's action music and this is chock full of it, all well-written and even more intense than his work on Live Free and Die Hard.

Yeah, I'm in a Menken groove again. Like HERCULES, I don't listen to this all that often, but it's good.

Great score from when Menken was at the top of his game!

This is actually my least favorite Menken score... it's too overdramatic.
(I know his other scores also tend to be overdramatic but they fit their movies. But not this one, I think)

Excellent stuff! A really fun score that pays homage to some of the greats, particularly John Barry, Henry Mancini and Lalo Schifrin.

NP: METSAN TARINA - Panu Aaltio.

This is my favorite score of 2012. It is in turns beautiful, sweeping, fun, or delicate, with some real highlights. And it is nearly always interesting.

Edit: Those last five tracks are outstanding!
  2. Still playing METSAN TARINA. "Raindrops" is SUCH a gorgeous cue. I can't stop playing it. It's simple, but so beautiful. It's amazing what a skilled composer can do with just a piano, cello, woodwind, and some strings.

Not even the Michael Kamen score? devil
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

Indeed. It's beautiful but he's not playing in the same league as Morricone there.

Horner was awesome as feck in the 80's, score after brilliant score.

  4. THE LORAX - John Powell

Not bad. "Funeral for a Tree" is quite nice.

This cue is just perfection. It's exactly why I worship Powell, his melodies just gets to me like few others.

NP: Der Name der Rose / The Name of the Rose

This score flies under many people's radar. Undeserved: Especially the concluding music is marvelous!

NP: MEN IN BLACK II (Danny Elfman)

This is by far the most listenable soundtrack in the trilogy, although neither are among my favourite Elfmans. The funk elements help a lot.

NP: Bad Girls - Jerry Goldsmith

One of my favorite Goldsmith score. Love all of the melodic materials Jerry has came up for this (sadly) disposable movie. A favorite cue from the album is the "Bank Job" cue in its ability to remain both suspenseful and melodic at the same time.
