    Frozen Planet - George Fenton

So pleased to finally have this. A wonderful album.

I was thinking of starting off with Roger Limb's Doctor Who: The Caves of Androzani?

Fenton is amazing. Glad he got those bbc gigs because otherwise he's under-appreciated.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

    You would!
  2. I can't believe that the US dropped David Attenborough's narration on Frozen Planet and used Alec Baldwin!!

I deal in facts, and here's one - it's impossible to upgrade from David Attenborough. Impossible.

Looks like I'm gonna have to get Shatner and Nemoy to pay you a little visit.

  4. NP: Duh u Močvari - Dalibor Grubačević

This is a score for a 2006 Croatian film called, "The Ghost In The Swamp".

It's an orchestral score that, though not ground-breaking, is a pleasing enough score. Some lovely passages mixed with a bit of tension and the occasional ethnic nods to the Balkans.

What is amazing about this is that it costs £1.79 for almost 40 minutes of music off iTunes!

So, if your looking to sample other composers then I would recommend this one to try.

You think they would have learned their lesson after Sigourney Weaver on Planet Earth...

The word FACT is used a bit loosely around here at times but in this case FACT! can't be written big enough.

    FACT!

He worked for the BBC long before he became a film composer but yeah, I get your meaning.

Flight of the Intruder - Basil Poledouris

Reasonably enjoyable but not one of Basil's best. Sad to think he walked away from Dances With Wolves to do this for his friend John Milius.

Do you think Poledouris would have done better than Barry? I certainly wouldn't want to miss Barry's "Dances with Wolves".
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

No, I don't. I don't think anyone would have done better than Barry. It's just a shame for Poledouris that his mate talked him into walking away from a film that would surely have changed his life.
  6. As fantastic as Barry's score is, I think what Poledouris would deliver, would be an extension of the wonderful Lonesome Dove, not a bad thing, if you ask me.

  7. NP: Out of Africa by John Barry

As re-recorded by Joel McNeely and the SNO.

I know that some fellows mind the fact that McNeely altered the tempi here and there, but I am alright with that. Indeed I prefer this version to the original recording for its added content and the superior sound.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

NP: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (Alan Menken & Miles Goodman)

Fun rock musical -- another Menken highlight. I love "Suddenly Seymour", in particular.
    I am extremely serious.
  8. Hans Zimmer - Black Hawk Down

One of the best and most creative war scores ever written... Not "honourable", "patriotic" at all. It's pure violence and pain.

  9. I just returned from the annual film music concert of the local philharmonic orchestra in Siegen. The do four evenings this year and all are sold out. Wow, what a fantastic concert:
They got an Italian conductor, Nicola Giuliani, a former student of Nino Rota at the conservatory at Bari. The whole evening was dedicated to Italian film music. Here’s the line-up:

    Nino Rota; suites from:

    Il Gattopardo
    La Strada
    Romeo & Juliet
    The Godfather Trilogy
    Amacord

    [Intermission]

    Ennio Morricone; suites from:

Once Upon a Time in the West
    The Untouchables
    Cinema Paradiso
    Marco Polo
    The Legend of 1900

    Nicola Piovani; suites from:

    Ginger & Fred
    La vita e bella

Encores were again by Nino Rota:

    Lo Sciecco Bianco
    8 ½

The crowd was enthusiastic! A very memorable evening!

    Cheers!

  10. THE WORDS - Marcelo Zarvos

This score is sort of low key, but there are moments that are really nice.

Excellent stuff! A really fun score that pays homage to some of the greats, particularly John Barry, Henry Mancini and Lalo Schifrin.

  12. Johnny Guitar by Victor Young 1954 (VS)

Something funny happened with that album. I bought this CD almost 20 years ago. I did not like it very much then, I misplaced it and forgot completely about it.
Today I chanced upon it in a quite unlikely corner of the attic, I put it on and was amazed what a beautiful golden age western score this is.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

Is it possible that this is a vinyl master? Or are the cracking sounds inherent in the tapes?
