Lady in the Water- James Newton Howard

What happened to this JNH? Can we have him back, please?

He said, among other things, in a recent interview, the one-note Joker theme was genius, and that "Inception" was an amazing score.

He's gone over to the Dark Side.

No, that means he is a sane and a well-informed human being with good education.

Inception and the Batman scores are amazing indeed.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

He wrote Snowwhite and Hunger games recently which are pretty good. And he's got a new Shyamalan coming up!

Looking forward to the new Shyamalan. Wasn't terribly impressed by his Snow White or Hunger Games scores.

Zimmer's Joker motif is indeed a stroke of genius!

  5. And one piece of info, it IS a two-note motif, not a one-note one!

Well, it's that one note sustained note that everyone refers to. Zimmer could have done without that final chord at the end!

Indeed, it's the one note that's the meat of the motif, the one long glissando.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  6. Well, for me the theme is basically the sounds D-C played at the same time in a rhythmic pattern.

ROQUE BANOS - 2nd skin (segunda piel)

Phenomenally beautiful, lush and elegant. One of the most important composers of our times, for sure.

JOE HISAISHI - Tokyo Kazuko (2013)

This is nice, small-scale and subtle, short in duration and kinda monothematic though, but if you like Hisaishi's style you'll probably be fond of this gentle piano-orchestral score.

NP: PURE LUCK (Danny Elfman/Jonathan Sheffer)

I love ol' consonant Elfman. Sheffer does his best to emulate Elfman's style at the time.

Last 32 years, wow that's a mouthful! But yeah, great score. Unfortunately, it doesn't tap that much into JW's religious sound, which is surprising, given the subject matter. It's more a romantic love ambiance with Italian undertones.
    I am extremely serious.

Little talk about this, for some reason. I dig it. Great guitars, even hints at power anthems in the 'atom' tracks. Cool score!

NP: The Last Samurai - Hans Zimmer

I've been listening to this score on/off for the last couple days, and I have to say that it's one of most peaceful score Hans ever done (excluding the action stuff, natch!) The main theme, in the initial, best and most gorgeous track, "A Way of Life" is sublime. So much Zen calmness that sooth my soul. Yes, the entire score is pretty much a TRL redux in Asian clothing, with some Gladiator moments, but the best parts are so good, and so sincere in tone, that I forgive all of the lame action scoring.
  7. The Fury by John Williams arrived with the mail todaybut I am just not in the mood for it.

I had class with my intensive course German literature the last time today for they are going to take their a-level exams in three weeks.
I know it's unprofessionel and it's good and well for them to move on but I really like these kids and ... and ... cry wink
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  8. The Music of Maurice Jarre (Disc No 2 of Silva's "Lawrence" release.)
    An outstanding compilation!

    Cheers!

  9. James Horner - Flightplan

Completely underrated. One of his most intelligent soundscapes. Not an easy listen, but ultimately rewarding.
