One of the greatest film score pieces of all time? What always gets to me is the theme playing from 4:41 to 5:41. The rest of the cue is brilliant as well of course.

It's good music to an appalling film.

Will you hit me if I tell you I prefer Vangelis 1492 over that? wink

Tempting wink, but I won't, as the Vangelis album is absolutely fantastic. The trio Conquest of paradise, Monastery of La Rábid and Light and shadow is simply untouchable.

Same here, but both are great scores! Eidelman has never been better than this.

    GIFTS OF NATURE

In fact it's one of my all time favourite pieces of music, it just moves me very deeply in a way I can't explain and maybe don't need to. I love the photography from the poster, I'm sure it's Dartmoor which is not overly far from where I am, a beautiful marriage of image and music.

Great piece indeed! Gifts of nature, Dance with reality and Meadow of delight and sadness are my three favourite pieces on that album. Can listen to them again and again and never tire of them.

Yeah, with this and STAR TREK THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY it seemed like he was about to be catapulted into the big time of A-list composers but it never happened.

NP : LEGENDS OF THE FALL - James Horner

    Wonderful score.

p.s. is it just me or does the capital W in 'Wonderful' look a bit faded?

p.p.s. is it just me or is it only film score fans that would be so anal and perhickidy over something as trivial as a faded capital W.

    p.p.p.s. It's just me isn't it!? shame

Actually, this is not the City of Prague orchestra and actually appears to be synth, no wonder it sounds so bad lol.

Land of the Lost - Michael Giacchino

This is really awful. Spastic, dull and with very little of interest thematically. I'm trying to figure out if it would have gone done better with a thirty minute release but truth is, I can't even find highlights, aside from the entertaining end credits piece.

Noted. I'm assuming it's a big reason the score is so lousy.

Planet of the Apes - Jerry Goldsmith

It's always fascinating listening to music like this, very much a product of its time when serialism was the "in" thing. It's made more listenable by the sheer variety of the orchestrations and how Goldsmith's voice always penetrates the dissonance. "The Hunt" is one of the best cues ever written.

Shame you don't have a tachyon amplifier, to go back in time and warn yourself not to watch it.

For a small price ( oh, say $10,000,000 ) I would use it to go back and give them evidence as to why YOU MUST NOT MAKE THIS!

It's a great score to listen to "when you're in the mood for it". But I do find myself drawn to the more melodic scores more often.

I expect there are others here who feel the same way, not necessarily about JG's Planet of The Apes but scores you know to be brilliant and work perfectly in the film but personally cannot stand to listen to it as a stand alone experience.

The only ones that come immediately to my mind in that category are TERMINATOR'S I & II
