    BLOOD - Daniel Pemberton.

    This is the new MSM release. I'm just finishing my first listen. "The Burning" is fantastic! One of the best cues I've heard all year. It starts out low without a lot going on, introduces a theme on piano, which it repeats as strings are added, then more strings and orchestra and keeps building to 2:42, when it cuts out for a couple seconds before launching into an absolutely glorious finale on strings. You've got to hear this one.

    Edit: The next 1:50 of the following track "The Wind Out There" is gorgeous, too! These last two tracks really came out of nowhere. I had the album on while I was doing other things and didn't notice it too much, but these last two tracks demand notice.

    To me it's confusing, I like a lot of Moroder, don't like Faltermeyer and am totally neutral on Fiedel who did two perfect scores for Terminator 1 & 2 but neither are listenable on album.

    I agree with Thor. Forget watching the film and just enjoy one of John Williams most sublime scores.

    BRIAN TYLER - iron man 3

    The opening cue (The main theme), both outside and inside the film, is one of the best compositions for film i've heard this year so far. Great stuff.

    I don't have a general problem with two steps from hell, some of their albums are good, but in small dosages. And their pre-2008 stuff is horrible noise.

    It's not as refined as their later stuff, true, and it leans more on film music cliches rather than the composers' own emerging styles, but to dismiss it all as "horrible noise"...nonsense. Utter nonsense.

    I don't see a reason for placing a dividing line between 2007 and 2008. Their first album, "Volume one", has their trailer music sound, and it's basically the same sound we hear in "Dynasty" (2007), "Nemesis" (2007), "Legend" (2008), "Power of darkness" (2010) & "Nero" (2011).

    Anyway, not sure if it's others' cuppa tea, but I adore their new agy pop track Friendship to last from 2007. love

    Edit: Beautiful music. In terms of style it does owe a bit to Carl Jenkins' Adiemus (sans chorus). Not the first score to do so.

    I'm actually glad Söderqvist did not employ a choir here. There is a lot of choir in recent film music. Im the biggest of fans of great choir music. But it is a stylistic devive that must not be overused.
    Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

    This is actually my FAVOURITE score of last year! Sadly, it wasn't eligible since they only released a soundtrack this year (along with the international distribution of the film). So it will be my favourite of 2013 instead, if no other big surprise comes along.

    Well their latest stuff is also far better produced. It has larger dynamic range vs the constant flat wall of noise that were their previous works; also they finally gained the essence of melodic procession and themes, unlike their early material which was constant trailer-music loud banging.
