Mortal Bones: City of - Atli Orvarsson

Rather good as far as these things go. I understand the reference someone made to HZ's Da Vinci scores. It isn't that enjoyable, but it is enjoyable.

Was having fun until I gave up about 3/4s of the way through. I have no idea what last 4-5 tracks sound like. The RCMVisms started to become grating. Too bad because I was enjoying it.

  1. Through snail mail this morning:

Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) - Jerry Goldsmith (Alexander Courage orch.)
    Remastered and expanded

This has always been a favourite with me, film and score. THe feature film series never went so purely Roddenberry since The Motion Picture. Great!

I don't expect too much improvement in sound as the original release sounded brilliant already.

Thorough listenings will follow in the course of the weekend.

Have a nice weekend, all! smile

The Picard films are pants! tongue I used to enjoy them when I was a kid, because there was lasers and space battles and Goldsmith, and hey, it's Star Trek. But having watched them fairly recently, there's just too many plots holes and retarded things for me to enjoy them fully (though, admittedly, it's always nice to see the Enterprise on the silver screen... that's a damn fine looking ship).

I watched them recently and I generally agree... but I have to say, I think Nemesis is rather underrated.

The original presentations are not included in the expanded editions of "First Contact" and "Insurrection". Therefore I decided to keep the original releases whereas I sold the original CDs of the other scores.

  3. NP: Music from the X-Files - Mark Snow

I was never the biggest fan of that series. When I saw it occasionally I liked it well enough, and I loved the main theme which I still think is a killer.

The album was a disappointment for me back then. Too dissonat for my tastes. That has changed. I like the music a lot now for various reasons. The combination of electronics and natural instruments, for example, is oustanding here.

Normally I don't care much for dialogues in score CDs. But this I regard more as an concept album and the dialogue works just fine.

NP: The Last Samurai - Hans Zimmer

A conversation with Pawel on The Little Shop of Horrors and musicals and movie styles somehow went to this score, so I'm playing it for the first time in a half year or more.

And there still is original music left unreleased. This needs a genuine score-release badly!

    Some high praise there, James.

I think this is the great grandchild of Days of Thunder, and son of M:I2. Coincidentally, I love the sound in both scores. It's thematic, catchy, and very fun.

    NP: NEAR DARK (Tangerine Dream)

I love me some funky TD 80's riffs! One of the few horror scores I can actually listen to.
    I am extremely serious.
  8. I'd say M:I-2 + Inception with some Transformers (no, it's NOT Game of Thrones, but The All-Spark) thrown in smile It's not bad.
