    Professione Figlio - Ennio Morricone

A new release of a 1979 score that I hadn't heard before. I can't stop listening to it. Absolutely stunning beauty.

A Good Day to Die Hard - Marco Beltrami

A relentless action score in the familiar Beltrami mode, which I don't hesitate to admit I love.
To top things off, how much fun are the last 2 'extra' tracks at the end? smile

    NP: CAST AWAY (Alan Silvestri)

I adore this (both film and score)!
    I am extremely serious.
  1. NP: X-Men 2 (2003) - John Ottman

    I really like Ottman's style.

Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  2. Jerry Goldsmith - Hoosiers

Inspiring and beautiful. I know that the synths are jarring to a lot of people, but they somehow work in a stirring way here. There is just something to the spirit of sports films that gets to me.

I'm one of those that doesn't like Hoosiers ( aka Best Shot ), I find the synths irritating. You're in good company though Pawel, I believe there's quite a few people here at this board that love this score.

  3. The weirdest thing is that I usually hate the electronics of 1980s... and yet I love this one? biggrin

  4. I don't mind the electronics at all. Still I am not a fan of the score and could not be bothered to buy the extended edition. BUT: I have never seen the film. So this is a statement under reservation.

Krull's close cousin and totally awesome! cool
What a great set piece the stealing of the Enterprise scene is (in film) for Horner to compose to!
I never tire of hearing it, even 30 years later!
    Now that is fabulous scoring!
  5. ^ Battle Beyond the Stars Part III

King of Devil's Island - Johan Söderqvist

This is the most exquisite "new" film score (actually from 2010) I've heard in a long time. Perhaps since 2010. Its stark beauty is utterly mesmerising to me.

    't Is at that. cool
Even just Dusty Springfield's husky The Look Of Love is worth the price of admission. That, and the fantastic main theme.

  7. Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard - Gladiator

I haven't spent a day exclusively with Hans' music for a long time. I have reasons for that, which I can't yet make public. As soon as I can, I will let you know.

No need. You already lost. End of.

As for Arnold's score I think, bar a few tracks and a great title song, is one of his weaker efforts, too much noise, sturm and drang. Quantum of Solace is much better.

  8. That's interesting. Most people seem to prefer Casino Royale to Quantum...personally I think they're about equal, Casino has better highlights but is not quite as consistent.

Neither of them hold a candle to the insanely entertaining, flamboyant and OTT duo of Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough, though. cool

Crikey. I think Casino Royale is one of his best Bond scores! 'African Rundown' is one the greatest modern action cues ever written In My Opinion™, up there with Powell's Bourne music.

I think Quantum is marginally better but the two of them are certainly his best for Bond.

    smile cool

You have to realise that although I enjoy good action music I'm not really that into action scores. I don't know if it's an age thing or what? But the older I get the less I enjoy full throttle orchestral action music, when I do enjoy it, it has to have a hook or a theme, the Bourne scores of John Powell are a good example of that.
