The previous cover was better IMO. Anyway, I don't care much about this, I actually hope it sucks ass so it gets negative reviews and there might be a chance of getting JW back. tongue

Aside from Hannigan's game scores, I haven't heard the music or watched the films to any non-Williams ones.

Doyle's score for Goblet of Fire is really good. If you're a fan of his music, you should try listening to it. I enjoy that film a lot as well. Some cool action scenes.

The relaunched U.S. and UK sites include new audio snippets from the latest Potter score. It sounds a bit more focused and more grown-up than Hooper's score for the fifth film, but we'll see how the album fares.

There's a new iTunes-exclusive clip from HBP, now on Youtube too. Features original score by Hooper. Nothing near the level of Williams of course, but it sounds much more dramatic than the previous score. Liking it.

Even better, some kind people ripped those tracks and uploaded them here so we won't have to wait an hour in between. The quality is of course low and it comes from official preview source, so it only counts as preview material I think. wink

Sounds like some improvement from OoTP, but the quieter tracks remain quite drone-ish to me. And the action music isn't impressive either. But I like tracks like Farewell Aragog, Journey To The Cave and The Weasley Stomp.

Filmtracks has published its review on the new Harry Potter score. While I wasn't really expecting anything of it, the review seems to suggest that even people who were hoping Hooper would better himself after Phoenix, shouldn't bother.

Even standing outside the immense shadow of the Williams and Doyle scores, Hooper's second Harry Potter recording is less engaging than his first. For film music collectors, it could define the word "disappointment."

I recently saw a clip of an action sequence from the movie I was looking forward to and was infuriated to see the music was nothing but bland drums monotonously banging and an occassional burst of strings and brass. Something Williams or even someone like JNH or Brian Tyler would've elevated to brilliant levels.

I *PRAY TO GOD* that the WB executives make Yates bring back John Williams. Otherwise I swear I'll do something violent.

    In a video game, maybe...

I think the disappointment already starts with the orchestra. As opposed to the lush grandness of Williams or Doyle, he uses a chamber orchestra to mimic epicness. As it shows.

I can't understand if he can create great tracks like Fireworks, The Sirius Deception and Flight Of The Order Of The Phoenix, why can't he keep that quality of work in the rest of the score? The action music in HBP is so poor I couldn't even think it was for an action scene had I not known.

If this continues into Deathly Hallows then it will be a bad end of a great music series Williams started. Especially because the story of the final book is great and has immense potential musically.
