    ALEXANDRE DESPLAT's the upside of anger followed by THE PAINTED VEIL

    Without question one of the most gifted composers out there today. Singularly brilliant melodies and musical textures overall.
    Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

    Mine says the same on iTunes, I think Kaska's cues do actually sound different to most of Debney's stuff on the album. 'Blood River' is a fantastic action cue, and one that's peaked my interest in anything Kaska does in the future.

    Yes, "Blood River" is a great action cue, followed very very close by the other two: "Breaking the Ice" and "Bridge of the Ancients". And you´re right, a composer to keep an eye on.

    "After The Storm" is a great cue from this - there's a Celtic feel with the wordless vocals and the woodwinds. And it's made even better with the jig-like repeating section that's heard in several places.

    So much is just sonic noise and only really becomes listenable when Bates uses Carpenter's themes from the original movie.

    But I do like what Bates did with the main Halloween theme though.

    Yeah!!!

    A great main theme, and a lot of 70's Rythms!

    NP: Pirates Of Caribbean Suites

    They are almost a better listening experience than the realeased Cd.

    Without any doubt, zimmer best action writting! ( until now his most complex action score was peacemaker or muppet treasure island , but AWE surpass both)

    I just can't think how He can surpass something so beauty and old fashioned epic "Marry me" or so big and exiting like "hoist the colours".

    Mmm...I hate this kind of things.

    Why? because POTC: AWE is just an entertaining score and not a "pedrigree" one???

    Come on...Give me any day AWE before TTRL.

    The Thin Red Line has better development, better woodwind orchestrations. I just can't explain why is it so better. Performance, the whole idea, Zimmer's in-film best score. I'd need James and Demetris to elaborate here. PotC isn't as half as emotional as TTRL is

    I agree totally with your first sentence. TTRL is a masterpiece, and one of his best in-film music (or THE best) as you say. We won´t argue here.

    But in terms of developement I have to disagree. Pirates 3 has plenty of themes (form the previous scores, new ones, rearrangements of the previous, plus diferent arrangements / orchestrations of the new themes). So in terms of pure developement of themes I think Pirates is miles away of TTRL. Of course Pirates is big, bold action-drama-adventure music, and TTRL is softer, melancolic, restrained and pure beauty music. Two completely different approaches for two completely different films (in intentions and results). I think both movies have the BEST score possible.
    Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you

    NP: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Howard Shore)

    As much as I like the trilogy of scores, I've always gone back to this score specifically. I think as a whole the LOTR trilogy scores are vastly overrated -- beautiful melodies and lush orchestration are appararent (but I feel that Shore tried too hard to push emotional buttons in the final film), but I feel the middle chapter is one that's a true masterpiece. And I don't see the fuss about the super-duper 4-disc complete release -- the regular album release has most of the highlights on one disc.

    Sleuth - Patrick Doyle

    A nice enough departure for Doyle, but it does become almost unbearably repetitive by the end, with virtually the same revolving idea repeated over and over to within an inch of its life!!!

    I have the CD but believe me Steven, the LP still sounds better!

    I said before and I'll say it now.....remaster / expand....please!
