  1. After having to put up with Sabrina John Williams, which is possibly his most mediocre score that I own, (perhaps even worst JW effort ever??) I now have:

NP The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Ennio Morricone

    Which more than compensates
If in doubt, let the wookie win

That is soooo addictive, i really love that score too.

Check out Le Peuple Migrateur, which has a lot of the same elements and thematic ideas, and a beautiful son with Nick Cave. And ofcourse La Planete Blanche too!

It's been a few years since I've listened to this. Very good dark, choral score.

Easily my favorite JNH score, gripping and passionate, awesome score!

Ah, I thought it was you who loved this one so much. It's not my favourite JNH but it is very good. smile

NP : ALIVE - James Newton Howard

Another damn fine score I haven't played for some time, shame it's missing some great pieces from the film.

Indeed, I love this too. What a shocker, eh? Still, the Finding The Tail, Alberto and End Titles cues are particularly lovely.

No pleasing film score fans, albums are either too long or too short, we're not often a satisfied bunch? wink

OK, approaching it from another angle.

In film music history, has there ever been another composer with any real volume of work to his name, whose work for one particular director completely overshadows everything else he has done? Of course, I'm talking about JNH and Shyamalan. He seems to hit the ball out of the park every time for that director - and while there are a couple of very, very good scores elsewhere - in general very little comes close. Of course Williams has Spielberg and Herrmann had Hitchcock, but those two wrote (write?) generally very fine music for any project; why does JNH get so much extra inspiration for Shyamalan? Surely it's not the films (how anyone can sit through any of them with a straight face is beyond me) - so must be something about the working relationship. Can anyone shed any light on that?

....and then you totally redeem yourself! punk cool

You have some valid points, JNH is no Goldsmith when it comes to pulling out the stops for any and every film.

NP: The Grudge 2 - Christopher Young

A masterful horror score -- and features one of Young's most beautiful horror themes. A brilliant cacophony of dissonance and symphonic beauty. Wonderful stuff!

Couldn't agree more, that is a very effective and cleverly constructed horror score by the master of the genre.
