And what, prithee, is wrong with wine and chocolate?
Sure beats football for sheer enjoyability (but then to my mind having your eyes eaten out by rabid fireants while tied to a stake in the Nevada desert with Haslinger blasting in your ears on repeat pretty much beats football for sheer enjoyability).

Few things in life give me more pleasure than wine and chocolate. The slaughter of vegetarians comes close. But football just about edges them out.

I grew up with vegetarianism with both my parents being vegetarian, so it's not something I've ever thought strange. I actually admire vegetarians and agree with their reasons... I'm just too hypocritical to actually be vegetarian. I love dead cow just too much.

Go ask a nutritionist and you'll see that going strictly vegetarian is the stupidest thing you can do to your body.

Of course, I don't really want to advocate the slaughter of vegetarians. Many people have perfectly adequate ethical or religious reasons for it. It's the ones who are entirely hypocritical with it (a vegetarian who eats fish? - what's all that about?; a vegetarian who will not eat a steak because it's cruel to cows, but wears leather shoes? - what's all that about?) that annoy me.

What? Don't look at me, ask someone who's specialized on this one. Fibers, fruits and vegetables are ESSENTIAL to one's good health but having a nutrition strictly and solely based on these, will deprive your body of essential ingredients that are crucial and nowhere to be found in the green thingies. Do you actually disagree with this?

I hope so. A vegetarian diet can be one of the most healthiest diets a human can have. We don't need to eat meat to survive, we just prefer to.

My parents aren't strict with their vegetarianism and never forced me not to eat meat. They just don't eat meat themselves (and no, not fish either wink).

I suspect there are many things which would do more damage to your body than being vegan, like drinking, smoking, chopping your limbs off etc.

But I went out for a meal with a group which included a vegan and I have to say, it was so irritating. If he wants to be vegan then fine, but please don't come out for a meal with me (or if you do, don't eat anything).

But of course. The word here is BALANCE. Eating meat all the time doesn't serve BALANCE, nor does eating green and fiber. It's simple logic.

Christ you have an ignorant outlook on vegetarianism! Being vegetarian doesn't mean you only eat vegetables and fruit, Demetris. It means you don't get protein from meat. Protein can be found in other non-meat sources.

So perhaps you'd like to tell your opinion to my parents who in fact are very healthy?

You play with words here, we have one word for somebody who eats only vegetables, fruits and no meat whatsoever (fish, chicken included) and that's what i meant. I didn't know you had many words to describe certain situations each and every time.

Anyway, if you want to be informed a little more than your own opinion which you formed inside your own house, then you might want to ask someone who's specialized. I am not, but i have talked with such persons in the past due to some problems i had.

Yeah, well, with substitutes galore for both greens AND meats and their essential ingredients, there is NO natural resource that can be said to be essential (in the sense of irreplaceable).
We could conceivably get by on a balanced diet of pills.

    However that negates two things:
    1) taste & enjoyability: food for man is SO much more than just nutrition: it's a social and aesthetic event
    2) we're on the bloody top of the food chain so we can pretty much do what we want

Vegetarians are generally lovely people who really enjoy playing around with foodstuffs and are -in my experience- hugely creative in the kitchen.
Vegans are annoying extremist activists on a mission.

Interestingly I am reading a book by top chef Anthony Bourdain (a very honest and refreshingly entertaining writer!) who very much detests vegetarians as well...but that's mainly because he SO much loves to work with meat (and his book is VERY much NOT recommended to anyone thinking about straying from a veggie diet, or on the brink of starting a diet spin eat )

Oh for god sake Demetris. You said "White and Red meat are essential to one's good health." I'm disagreeing with that because I have not only read this is not true, I've seen the proof this is not the case. Perhaps if you do a little research, you'll find that meat is not essential to a healthy diet.

So please don't accuse me of an opinion 'formed inside my own house' just because I don't agree with you. Next time please learn the facts before you go ahead and make an argument.
