As I stated: I got fined many times.
I see no moral high ground.
I just don't go ranting against the system when I, by my own volition at worst and at best in my own sphere of influence and responsibility fuck up. spin

Interesting how all motorists all across the world find this simple cause-and-effect hugely unjust. smile

Yeah, but sometimes it's not as black and white as that. I got caught for doing *dum dum dum* 7MPH over the limit

Sounds quite black and white to me.
    Just to emphasise again:
    7MPH over the limit

    You speeded.
    You got fined.
    What's so unjust about it?

I do find it interesting that as western governments start to movie into a structural revenue crisis, they're finding new ways to generate reliable streams of revenue. It's like governments placing excessive taxes on smoking or gambling with the stated aim of deterring consumers. Not true at all - they're cutting into the revenue of fairly price-inelastic goods, less interested in deterring consumers than benefitting on an ongoing basis from the willingness of people to risk their security and health.

It doesn't make speeding a permissable good by any means, but I do wonder what comes next - small 50 cent tax on every white lie? If you're going to run a budget off the consequences of a sin too small to actually want to stamp out... wink

Well, back to my original statement, I was listening to "Enterprising Young Men" and it's a great track from a good score! And that's that!

Mishima I'm very curious to hear.

...oh, right. And, um, Giacchino is like awesome and stuff. I like his scores.

I await Martijn's wrathful reply to my concern.

Just while we're on the topic though, Atham was well-justified in complaining about speeding penalties if he was speaking about my state of New South Wales. A very vocal pedestrian/cyclist activist group has had the ear of the Premier's office for years now, and has ensured that even marginal speeding of 3-5 km over the limit at a point - something which doesn't reflect people's driving speed on a journey - receives quite punitive fines and license demerits. Thankfully, lobbying to ease off on the license demerits has been successful, although I notice the debt-constrained state government has not moved the fines in the same gesture. (But then, that's all they really care about, isn't it? A speeding camera is a premium electronic toll gate that delivers big time.)

Definitely listen to MISHIMA however. It's a very eclectic bag, but I dare say you'll recognise a couple of tracks. (One track was used in the Truman Show, and another was the basis for 'Prelude to War's opening 2 minutes in BSG.)

Tragic news: Disney confirmed there will be no CD released for Up - http://pixarblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/e … isney.html sad

Sadly, it indeed looks like this is the future of Disney scores. They'll concentrate only on releasing the High School Musical and Hannah Montana stuff on CD and push all movie soundtracks into download-only area. Looks like we'll have to rely on FYC promos from now to get stuff in high quality.

I'd better learn to put money in a Paypal account for the promo in January! tongue

This is such a fu***ed up strategy!
News like this gets me furious....!!! crazy crazy (don't get me wrong DemonStar... not your fault of course! smile ).
Who really cares about HSM and Hannah Montana!? This is just sad... so hopfully Intrada is realising the "Up" score as the Intrada Limited Collection # 257 in 2027...

Really. While I agree that the Miley Cyrus stuff is Disney's top coffer filler, it's not good that they treat scores this way. If they don't care about releasing scores properly then they can at least let someone like Varese release them, who'll be very happy to oblige I'm sure. Even Universal allowed that. But no, they'll never do that, they make sure the score comes out ONLY on Disney Records AND at the same time they make it nicely crappy. Touche, Disney. slant

I have no words to describe my anger at Mickey Records...

When Mickey says "Digital Only", that means not only "inferior quality only" but also "regional inequity".
Avex (Japanese distributor of Disney albums) usually doesn't sell Disney's digital only score releases. Even when they released one (only Bedtime Stories as far as I know), it was horrible 128kbp AAC, not 256kbp (iTunes Plus).

    Just a small comforting fact...

The creator of the petition I mentioned before contacted one of the Disney music executives and asked her the reason for this. She replied that they weren't releasing Up on CD as it is "all score and no songs". But she added that soundtracks containing songs like Princess And The Frog will be released on CD too.

So at least we can hope Toy Story 3 will get a CD release. Meanwhile, just hope we can get our hands on a lossless promo of Up next year in the awards season...

money wise and technology wise I can understand it. After all even if we buy it, we still download it first. I can understand this and especially in the time of economical crisis

but this also is a dangerous path because if one company decides to do so, others might follow. Perhaps not completely but still

But can you really buy that?

I mean, as I said before, there is a regional divide on digital releases. I can't buy them on Japanese iTunes or other Japanese download stores. You can't create an account on US's iTunes Store officially. I had to fake up an address in North America to make my account.

And buying America's iTunes Gift Card costs much more than Japanese Gift Card. slant

And if there is a CD release we can buy a copy from (almost) anywhere. Even without internet connection, all I have to do is to ride a train to a bigger record store (e.g. Tower Records!), or just order it at a local CD shop.

Regional divide is a problem indeed. Fortunately I have some relatives in the US who can get it for me. But not everyone has that convinience, it's very troublesome. The buy-and-download system needs a lot of changes.

Yeah... It's a shame to see that this is indeed how our culture is run by the media; the top companies are behind it all, limiting what is 'not as popular' (and they determine what is to be popular and what is to be unpopular by their presentation of it all through marketing, magazines, etc.) and promoting the crap they want the world to embrace. Stupid bias. I'm getting sick of Disney.

People say that people's interest in classical and orchestral music is diminishing, but the only reason for that is that it is not hyped up like it once was. Now it is just a secondary form of entertainment meant to stand in the 'background' and never be noticed or appreciated. The only reason score fans like us seem to be a shrinking minority is that no one markets orchestral music like they market their other crap. It's my belief that the only reason popular music is popular is because the media goes nuts over is (e.g. 'This is what's cool and in style now, so this is what you should listen to, what you should wear, what you should do, etc.'). And it annoys the crap out of me. vomit

Sadly, the fact is true. Film score is something you need to listen with your heart and soul to appreciate and use your own heart (and brain) to understand the emotions it wants to convey. And 99% of the young fellas out there want foot-tappin catchy music they can hip and hop to in brain-dead mode. At least that's what most Bollywood music out here is for. So far I've yet to meet a person who even pays attention to... ah... "background music" in the movie, let alone listen to it on CD. They whine about "background score" tracks on CD and wish they stop releasing it vomit

I do not blame Disney for promoting stuff which is more profitable for them, but them butchering scores like this is not acceptable. As I said before they can at least let some other label release it if they don't care.
