    FULL METAL JACKET

All the barracks etc shots were filmed in England, however, Director Stanley Kubrick is notoriously scared of flying so all the climatic battle scenes that were filmed in Thailand ( a country that has "doubled" for Vietnam in a lot of films ) was directed by 2nd unit director Terry Needham who had to continually fly back and forth between England and Thailand so Kubrick could personally oversee the weekly rushes.

TRUE. I think I've heard that bit about Kubrick being afraid of flying, at the very least.
    I am extremely serious.

To Martijn, Bregt and Steven....well done! beer

    The answer was indeed FALSE!

I think the rest of you were lured in by the fact that Kubrick has a fear of flying. ALL of Full Metal Jacket was filmed in England, the ruined city was a gasworks due for demolition and the open country was Cliffe Marshes on the Thames completed with 200 palm trees imported from Spain.

More info can be found at various websites, wikipedia, IMDB etc.

punk fireworks punk I rock! punk fireworks punk
(oh, and Bregt and Steven too, somewhat)

My reasoning was that it was something to do with the location thingy (I'm starting to work out how you think biggrin ), but I thought it would've been more insidious than that: I was guessing the reason it was false was because it was the Philippines rather than Thailand. shame

    Nice one! beer

Well thought out Steven. Kubrick was also notorious for the amount of takes he would film, he was such a ball-busting perfectionist.

Well, you were on the right track beer

"I'm starting to work out how you think"

I'm going to have to start thinking differently to how you think I think or will my thinking be antisipated by your thinking so I'll have to do a double think and hope you think my think is a double bluff think!?

FLAYING was the most horrible of ALL medieval tortures sometimes ending in death. The victim would be whipped until enough blood was drawn to satisfy those of whom the wrong had been commited, of course, sometimes it would end in the individuals death.

    TRUE or FALSE ?

and, of course, open to gory debate wink
