Agreed. This is one of the reasons why I've decided to limit my participation on this board. The Zimmer/RC conversations are becoming just as generic and clichéd as his music is.
-Erik-
You're being unfair here, there's frequent mention of scores from lesser known composers as well, you just choose to focus on the debates around RC mediocrity i believe, in order to fuel your displease and disappointment, maybe even without consciously knowing it?

Not unfair at all. And the key words in your post are "frequent mention." I would like to see more frequent discussion. But it seems that Zimmer and Co. is far more interesting to the majority of the crowd around here, which is fine... I just don't want anything to do with it.
NP: Wall-E - Thomas Newman
Not bad! It's great to listen to epic sci-fi music from Newman for the first time. I prefer this over Finding Nemo. However, Nemo worked extremely well in the movie.

Yes, what i am trying to understand is what bothers you exactly, where you're coming from precisely 'cause i want to understand. Is it this forum in particular or some members of the forum or the times in general? 'Cause you can't dismiss all the new releases just for being.....new and on the other extreme - and it's just my personal opinion, i know some might disagree, a board where indeed everything gets instantly-canceled just because it is NOT Goldsmith, it's not a rather pleasant or beneficial experience either.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I love that score!
I think I may like it slightly more than the other two, but if so, not by much. His new themes are all brilliant, and I love how towards the end of Drink Up Me Hearties Yo Ho he combines the Up Is Down theme and the Will/Elizabeth string theme. I Don't think Now Is the Best Time is also one of my favorite action tracks. Fantastic!

One listen to the Hoist The Colours theme in What Shall We Die For told me instantly that I was addicted to this score for the rest of my life!
NP: Enchanted - Alan Menken
Just cannot get enough of Storybook Ending and Enchanted Suite! And I HATE the editing of the tracks here!!

I don't want to hijack this thread again... but I'm just turned off by the constant over analysis of Zimmer and Co. ordinary work. I'm all for free speech and whatever but I just have a personal protest going on here and instead of me pissing on all you Zimmer fans all the time I'm just going step back and let the rest of you have your fun. As you can see I'm contributing but not at the rate I once did. I mean, I hate to see what direction this board is going to go in when The Dark Knight is finally released. Yikes...

I agree with Erik.
It's getting at a JNH/Zimmer only NP topic. I'm just going to say it like this, and don't feel the need to excuse or euphemism it: it has been this like for weeks. I'm not addressing this to one person or so, not at all. Is it coincidence or not, I have no idea.
But why are so many people playing the same!?
ALL THE TIME!
And I'm probably guilty too. But I don't mention it all the time.
This was my first rant ever on something like this.Kazoo -

Man... Wall-E just floated by. It just ended and I'm like... that's it? Nothing really grabbed my attention. A few excellent epic set pieces but it all seemed to just play at the same level. Hummm...
NP: Finding Nemo - Thomas Newman
I'm going to give this another spin. Recently saw the film again... LOVE IT TO DEATH! And being a father makes for a much more emotional experience now! And the score made quite an impression on me. Newman's main "Nemo Egg" is heartbreaking. But I always had a hard time with it on CD. Let see what happens...

Arguably there's a trick to being able to enjoy all kinds of music without being an elitist snob. Not that I'm saying you're an elitist snob... just that you're an elitist snob.

Surely the main point is that everyone enjoys what he or she enjoys and, while I may not be able to understand others' choices, it doesn't actually matter to me nor make any difference to me what those choices are. There's no point me trying to convince someone that their time would be better spent listening to Papillon than it is listening to Batman Begins, I can give my own opinions but at the end of the day it makes no difference.
I don't think what Erik said is even close to being snobbish anyway. From what I understand of his posts, he is just frustrated that all the discussion and debate here is about mediocre modern scores - ones which in his (and my) opinion are more worthy of the discussion don't get any. I came back from four days away and there were 299 new posts in this very thread, and I have absolutely no desire to read them because I'm quite sure 200+ of them will just be about how great some very recent Zimmer/JNH/etc score is. I think I've written enough about my feelings about Zimmer by now that I don't need to do it again for a while, and I guess what Erik would like to see is a degree of restraint exercised by others - which would maybe give the more tentative posters a chance to discuss entirely different scores. I can't honestly say that I would hold out much hope for that! -

Having said all I did, there's still no question that I would far rather spend time here than at say FSM, even though one might characterise FSM as the Goldsmith Fan Club and Maintitles as the Zimmer Fan Club and I'm as big a Goldsmith fan as anyone. In general the most vocal posters here simply come across as nicer people than the most vocal ones at FSM. -

Modern scores or old, I enjoy each in a different way. And here's a very (IMHO) likeable modern score.

It was meant to be taken with a pinch of salt. But there's some truth to it, I think there's a snob in all of us (some more so than others), or at least we all each hold certain opinions in high regard concerning our tastes and preferences to music. I used to be very snobbish about "my" music, but I like to think I've grown up a bit since then... I hope so anyway.
I agree that the constant discussion about "Zimmer and Co." is a bit boring, but then whatever is being released and most commercially available at any given time is always going to spur more conversation than older scores. And this in turn probably encourages snobbish/elitist/call-it-what-you-will remarks from those who are fed up with it. And I completely understand why.
It's always going to happen, new scores are released, some love them and never shut up about it, some fail to see what all the fuss is about and start going "la la la la la not listening" and then puts on a classic old skool score in utter disgust. That's what being in a generation is all about!
There are certain members who seem to be most to blame for never shutting up about new scores, but I won't name them because I'm better than that. (*cough* Jordi *cough* Anthony.) -

NP: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - John Williams
What can I say, I love this score. It's simply one album I can put on and not skip any cues... although I wish an expanded album will be released in the future (as there is one beautiful piece of music that DIDN'T make it into the album).
I pray that once Yates switches gears and starts pre-production on the two-part Deathly Hallows, that the WB will "convince" him to bring back Williams to finish what he started.http://unsungfilmscores.blogspot.com/ -- My film/TV/game score review blog -

Just out of interest, anyone have a favourite scene that uses the Indy theme? I'd have to go with 'The German Sub' (tied with 'To The Nazi Hideout'). The moment the theme kicks in (also the best rendition of the theme IMO) when Indy climbs the sub is FECKING AWESOME. -

It's just a standard rendition of it, but when Indy gets on the horse at the beginning of the desert chase on Raiders. NOTHING else could have been played at that point!!
Second to that I'm gonna have to say at the beginning of Doom when Indy, Shortround and Willie take off in the plane.
Third place is probably when Indy swings down on the rope and lands in the mine car, and fourth is probably the submarine rendition you mentioned.

I see the point, but even by jesting that someone who listens to Delerue or Rozsa elitist, you've articulated the situation better than I could have. My problem is that apart from occasional nods by a few discerning individuals (incl. yourself), most of what I post to the Now Playing thread might as well not be there as far as most people are concerned. This old stuff is at least of equal calibre to the new (to be very generous), and yet generates not 1/100th of the discussion.

NP: Museum Opening Suite (Christopher Gordon)
A magnificent 14 minutes. Probably the best film music by a film composer I've heard this year. This guy can write counterpoint like very few still can. In the celebratory tradition of his event scores, but smaller in scope, with emphasis on classical guitar, two-voice writing for trumpets and two harps.A butterfly thinks therefore I am
