Prince Caspian may have been a retread (or even a "retard") but I'm curious to know where his brother has written better music than it... I'm not the world's biggest HGW fan, to say the least, but surely he hasn't gone from "Best composer ever!" to "Worst composer ever!" in such a short time with you guys!

I never really liked him as a composer in the first place (though enjoy some of his older work). No change of mind on my part.

As for Djawadi, i do consider him a talentless hack in the same company as Tyler Bates, BT, Haslinger and people like them.

Actually, BT wrote an extraordinary score for Monster.

true, I'm not saying others wouldn't write something better but Transformers has an incredibly effective and fitting musical score, part of the reasons why I love the movie so much

and at least it has themes shocked wink

And it's the score that really ruined the movie for me. I don't mind Michael Bay's mindless action but Jablonsky's score is the real turn off.

Really? I mean, I think I can understand why you would say that, but don´t you at least like the Decepticon Theme? I had massive goosebumps when that little frakker tried to get into Airforce One´s server.

    shocked

I'm truly shocked by that. I can't imagine that many film composers through history have two scores that bad on their resume. Some of them manage it once... few of them twice... and fewer still in such a short career.

I really enjoyed the music to Transformers and The Island, even though they are quite simplistic when compared to complex scores such as Don Davis's music for The Matrix films. But they are still good, and they worked really well in the films themselves.

I hope David Arnold is able to create an epic fantasy score for the third Narnia film. Some of the old themes need to stay. They create a musical continuity that I appreciate.

I completely agree. But I'm wondering whether he'll be allowed to use HGW's themes. (As I said on the previous page!)

To be frank, I hope Arnold doesn't use any of them and instead provides another ID4 or Stargate.

Well, it'd be ok if you're not a fan of the films and don't care about the series' continuity.

I think it's always a pity when a film composer has to use another composer's themes. I understand the reasons why, but you can think of scores like Brian Tyler's Rambo where the difference between the original Tyler sections and the parts where he's quoting Goldsmith are so stark that it's as if one score ends and another one starts during those moments, or the various composers who have had to use John Williams themes during their career, when the same is true. I doubt that HGW's theme from Narnia is famous enough that Arnold would be made to use it here - at least, I hope not!

Aside from the fact I love HGW's works on the first Narnia, in this case I'm caring about the film itself rather than the score, because I'm a fan of the Narnia films (more than the books). That's why I stick about HGW themes.

If I were just a score fan and dislike the previous films, probably I wouldn't care much about the old themes...

"David Arnold is conducting music from The Stepford Wives,Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace with the wonderful Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at The Albert Hall on May 8th.I'll be the one in the front waving my arms around....."

I just hope he stays on for Narnia, it's still almost two years away!
  3. I saw the first hour of a film that must truly be one of the worst ever made: HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS AND ALIENATE PEOPLE. And David Arnold provided the music... I question the taste of anyone who willfully involves themselves in such a charade.

The original cut of the movie was a whole different movie. Plus, David's a friend with the director. So... you can figure it out.

It wasn't dreadful...but I suppose I'm only saying that because I went to see it on Orange Wednesdays. Pretty much anything you see for half price in one of those big seats isn't bad.
  4. I saw it for free, and was treated to dinner. It was dreadful. wink
