From a commercial point of view, it's about money. I'm sure it means more than that to you! (I assume.) -

I don't like how Christmas is about food.
No wait, I like food, I don't like how it is overdone... I hate to see the amounts of food people buy for Christmas, when I'm in the store and see that, I almost cry... It's 'eat untill you explode' to some people.

Christmas-stress is a serious disease too...
My wish for Christmas is that it will be a bit more relaxed. -

Oh, and on topic, I call it Christmas, because it's called Christmas.
I have a nice story about when I was teaching humanist life view education in primary school. I had islamic and christian children too in my class (because there was no catholic and islamic life view teacher) and we were talking about "What does Christmas mean to you?"
The muslim boy shouted out loud "I'm not allowed to talk about this! If my dad hears we talk about Christmas... I can not do this!" And he walked out.
I talked to him and said, the question is "What does Christmas mean to you? You have two weeks off as well, right? Well, then tell me about that! What are you going to do when you have two weeks off?? It's called Christmas holidays anyway, even when you don't celebrate Christmas..."
So, the children each made something that represented Christmas to them, they thought of things like 'being with family', 'dinner', 'presents', 'christmas tree and decoration', 'lights and candles', 'peace', 'having two weeks off' and the moslim boy in the end made a drawing of what he wanted to do when he had two weeks off.
The public (that means neutral when it comes to life view) school my kids go to call the Christmas festivities at school 'Winter Fest' or something... I think that's kind of ridiculous. What's in a name...

Zealots and fundamentalists.
As a matter of principle they should not be given even an inch of leeway.
No catering. No compromises. Adapt or die.
Obviously you're a much better teacher than I would be.

It means a lot more to me but the commercial aspect is quite disturbing with the black Fridays, cyber Mondays and on and on.

I try to ignore the commercial side to Christmas as much as possible. I only worry about getting presents for immediate family, and only get a present if I know they'll genuinely want it!
Christmas has never really been stressful for me. (But then I don't have kids, nor am I the host.) -

Christmas is nearly always stressful for me.
The last time it wasn't stressful was in Nepal in 1999, Mel and I were in Kathmandu airport on December 21st about to fly home and feeling a bit depressed at leaving, we had a chat and realised "we don't have to go home"....so we didn't!

I had a whole huge reaction typed up, when I realised it just repeated over and over again 'I REALLY LIKE THIS'.
So let that suffice.

Agree!
Christmas has never really been stressful for me. (But then I don't have kids, nor am I the host.)
You don't have parents or parents-in-law either then...
If you were replying to my post, I'll explain a bit: I am not stressful myself, I just hate to see everyone stressed around me.
For instance moms who both want us on Christmas day... so who gets the other day..?? (Which is of course less fun because it's... the next day??!!) We seriously had fights over this.
Good point about being the host. I am never a host because I hate that and I don't like cooking. But visiting a stressed host isn't fun either. Sometimes the whole Christmas dinner seems so unnaturally perfect. And my mom had years when she started to ask us which day and what food two months before... But that's just because she really likes cooking and has fun preparing it all.
For me Christmas is a nice warm holiday with lights. I just want to relax.
And the presents are already given by Sinterklaas, so with Christmas it's just something for the moms and that's it. I do like making my own Christmas cards (instead of buying 50 for E0,99) so perhaps I'll do that again this year. And when I don't have time I'll buy Unicef cards or something like that. -

Well, after reading a bit here in different topics I am reminded of people who lost their moms or dads and perhaps wish they had them fighting over Christmas... I apologize. I will try to appreciate a bit more!

Wow! In one 30 second clip, with all the logical inferences, Perry might just have alienated Christians, gays, atheists and biologists!
He'll probably still appeal to generic idiots, though...

Overheard by me today in my office's cafeteria, two guys talking to each other in line for lunch. They are both going on about atheists and Christmas, and one guy says to the other:
"These atheists, they shouldn't be allowed to celebrate Christmas. They don't believe in God. They should go an join Al Qaeda."
I'm not kidding.

I was bemused on two fronts. Not only was I deeply offended by the inference that atheists are somehow synonymous with terrorists, but the very act of being an atheist would be one of the major things that would actively proclude someone from joining Al Qaeda!Movie Music UK http://www.moviemusicuk.us -

That... and also that they 'claim' Christmas somehow, like it only belongs to Christians...
Sad comment they made and not very smart at all.

Another fool peddling the philosophical manure that societies are inherently immoral and doomed to "moral collapse" without the aid of religion (a common and all too tired argument from religious apologists, atheist and theist alike, one which never fails to dumbfound me):
David Cameron says the UK is a Christian country
"But what I am saying is that the Bible has helped to give Britain a set of values and morals which make Britain what it is today."
I can't tell whether he's simply bending over backwards to please religious groups, or if he genuinely means that?

Things are downright strange here.
What kind of morals should Bible give anyway, I mean? Yes, I would very carefully say that the modern state does partly come from the Middle Age, which means things dependant on religion, but that would also mean that we are rejecting a whole bunch of state philosophies that aren't religious per se in nature (since Machiavelli political philosophy has been saying that it's better if a state does accept or even support religious systems, but purely on a pragmatic level) and then we reject the concepts of Enlightement, which basically created the modern political philosophy and that came from a purely rational point of view on many levels.
No country today openly refers to the morals and values from the Bible directly, even if that set happens to more or less (at least officially, but let's keep what's clandestine clandestine) agree with the Ten Commandments there are at least hundred sources, where the same "set of values and morals" could be taken from.http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website
