We'll survive. We are a bit upset and I'm going to be more when he leaves but you know me. I'll be on my feet soon since I have to support him. And a Friday will come when I'll be out again.

He will be all right babe and before you know it he'll be back. I served 26 months, 9 is very little in comparison. Time goes by quickly wink

26 months? shocked That´s because you chose it? I mean, 9 months are 9 months more than I´d do, so 26 is science fiction to me!

I have been to a few screenings though with women friends. My experience is that they revert to 16 year olds whenever a bit of beefcake comes on screen. WAY more so than men!

(It is a little demoralizing when you're not exactly Ah-nold yourself. Although I do a mean Austrian accent. And I can tap the Terminator theme on my teeth. Oddly though that has failed to impress anyone to date. slant )

You can tap the Terminator theme on your teeth? Shit man but that would impress me!!

Though I get the impression I wouldn't be your target audience sad wink

No, it was obligatory back in 2001 when i joined. And i was also trained my ass off, as an officer. Now it's on 19 months. It's obligatory thanks to our few population numbers and our beloved friend, Turkey who invaded us back in 1974.

  1. The key here is discipline, not lethal force teaching. I guess a month in army barracks would some of the kids more than 2 years in jail.

Hmmmm? I know what you mean and it could be a double edged sword but in this country it's an ASBO which yobs wear like a badge of honour or a slapped wrist, I may be wrong but I feel a couple of years in the army would give them discipline and self respect that they'll never have and a possible career away from a life of drugs, terrorising the old and weak and stealing cars.

Either that or start building gas chambers.

It is indeed. In Norway, army service is also obligatory for all young males (unless you have some sort of medical condition or declare yourself a pacifist), but it's "only" 12 months. For women, it's voluntary.

They abolished obligatory army service back in 2001 in Spain. One of the few good decisions taken by the government of José María Aznar (or ASnar as his friend George W. Bush called him).

You'll have to write off two more European countries then:

Cyprus: 19 months, was until last year: 25-26 months.
Greece: 9 or 12 months accordingly.

Actually Greece is 9 or 14 right now. And the reason both countries have obligatory army service is the proximity to Turkey and the age old story of war threat from that side. Anyway, since 1997 we haven't had any serious problems and I truly hopes it remains this way.

So, how was the night in the pub Tim? smile

Last week I read in my local newspaper that there would be a concert in the concert hall in my town where a concert band / symphonic wind ensemble (what's the word?) with some local choir would play music from Star Wars. So I decided to buy tickets and I thought we'll see.

    It was awesome! punk

This was the programme after the intermission:

    1. The Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme) with choir
    2. Princes Leia's Theme with choir
    3. Duel of the Fates with choir, obviously
    4. Yoda's Theme
    5. Battle in the Forrest
    6. The High Council Meeting and Qui-Gon's Funeral with choir
    7. Augie's Great Municipal Band with choir
    8. Star Wars Main Theme with choir

I think the first two pieces blew me away the most. Because I thought the choir was there for Duel of the Fates it surprised me when they started singing there too, but it was really cool. And loud. There's no such thing as a live performance. Goosebump stuff. I'm listening to my CD now, feeling a little bit disappointed with CD and audio system. I thought it was really great.

The Imperial March with choir! love

Bregje, there's a Star Wars concert on March 30 in Antwerp. Part of the tour that started in London, and the same hall as LOTR In Symphony. I still don't have tickets, since it was rather expensive.

Would you go? Pity it's in the middle of the week.

It wasn't as bad as that Steven wink

There was loads of people at the pub for someones birthday and the "theme" was to come dressed as a chav, and as far as I could tell there wasn't a single genuine chav there and some of the girls were far too gorgeous.

As I said, it was an excellent night. cheesy beer
