Does anyone have Risoluzione 819 /Resolution 819/? I wonder what it is like. And I also wonder when it will become widely available because the Italian sites I usually buy from either don't list it or if they do it has to be backordered.
  1. Are there anywhere sound clips for "Pane e liberta"? I only found a scene from the movie with a little bit of the score (http://www.raitrade.it/presentSectionFi … onFile=435).

My god! Just finished listening to Pane e Liberta. What a melodic knockout! It has that nostalgic sound that Morricone has done in other places (Novecento, Cefalonia) but it's not old material. Boy, it is such a rich listening experience I was glad to have some minor semi-tension material for relief from all the beauty.

It seems that the cd can be pre-ordered now and will be released in a few days.

I ordered both Risoluzione 819 and Pane e liberta. Looking forward to them! I'm also thinking of going to the concert of the Maestro in Belgrad in February. It's only 500 kms from where I live. I don't know how much the ticket costs though. Anyway, I will see...

I'm wondering if anybody knows the score for MONEY which will be released soon but only in 500 copies. I'm sure it will be out of print soon but I don't know if it's worth buying or not. I'm not familiar with the music (nor the film, for that matter) so if anybody could give me some information I would appreciate it.

It's not among his best, but it's not bad either, I'd rate it 3 stars. Decent main theme, although it's an acquired taste, depending on how you feel about the soprano Gianna Spagnulo (also singing in Mosé and Navajo Joe). Has a few other tunes which are ok to listen to, but again, nothing special.

I only got the main theme and the love theme that I downloaded on chimai.com. The main theme is rhythmic, jazzy and rather cool. The love theme is pure Morricone gold. Romantic, soft and... romantic. I'm curious what the rest of the score has to offer.

Morricone didn't want to score them anymore. He thought the genre was milked to death. He must have had a lot of offers, but just plainly refused. On his last three western scores he was asked to mimick his established western style in a non-serious way, but failed in providing a really good, creative score for the last two.

I do love his last two western scores though. But they are better listened to as silly comedy scores rather than western scores or they are bound to sound like second-rate parodies. Judged as the ludicrous, good-natured comedy scores that they they are, I find them both brilliant.

It's a shame that Morricone was too busy to provide an original score for Tarantino's "Inglourious batards" but it seems that we'll still be treated with tons of Morricone in the movie: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41086

Nearly half of the music that's featured in the movie is by Ennio:

Dopo la condanna (La resa dei conti)
L’incontro con la figlia (Il ritorno di Ringo)
    Il mercenario (ripresa) (Il mercenario)
Algeri: 1 novembre 1954 (La battaglia di Algeri)
La resa (La resa dei conti)
Mystic and Severe (Da uomo a uomo)
    Un amico (Revolver)
    Rabbia e Tarantella (Allonsanfan)

OK, it's not exactly about Ennio but rather about his son, Andrea Morricone. According to news he's going to score a - guess what - SPAGHETTI WESTERN!
The movie is called Hired Guns and is produced by Sergio Donati, himself a name in the world of Italian westerns. Shooting begins in the summer.
Now, that's something I'm looking forward to! (both score-wise and movie-wise) I wonder how Andrea will handle the task. So far I'm quite satisfied with his work and the fact that the son of the most famous western-music composer follows his father's paths is great news! lick
