This music sounds beautiful and the movie looks great. When Morricone and Tornatore work together they have never let me down so I'm looking forward to this new masterpiece.

I read in a film forum that the budget would have been so huge that he eventually gave up on that plan and made instead Baaria - which is not a particularly cheap movie, either...

I overreacted a bit, but Tornatore has been working on it for years. I strongly believe the scale of the project is too huge. I wouldn't put my money on it.

The Baaria trailer was quite gripping, if overwrought. Not sure if I want to see it.

The music was fantastic though - looking forward to it!

I agree he has an ecclectic musical taste. The music he chooses hasn't worked so well since his heady days of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction IMO.

Indeed, no argue with that. However, as you pointed out in this post as well:

...that doesn't always mean that eclectic=right; i'd also add that the quality of his films has dropped rapidly compared to the modern classics you mentioned.

I couldn't argue with the musical choices in either of those films; and when I think about it, not Jackie Brown either. Would any of those three have really sustained a "traditional" score? Perhaps Kill Bill would (well, actually it definitely would) but I don't think his musical choices were all that lacking there either. I'm not the biggest fan of his films, but I think he has good ears in general.

PS.A shame that "L’incontro con la figlia" isn't on the official release though. It's an extraordinary piece that deserves all the attention it can get.

Very buttkicking stuff, and Morricone has used the track several times. It was composed for "The bible" (1964), a score that was rejected. Morricone later used it in "Il ritorno di Ringo", "Il fiore delle mille e una notte", "The secret of the Sahara" and probably on other occasions.

And that extraordinary track is the highlight of that extraordinary album, which is a highlight of Morricone's extraordinary career. (If you ask me.)
