NP: White Ghost Dancing (Ross Edwards)
Includes Edwards' vibrant 'Concerto for Guitar and Strings' and the awesome, Arvo Part-like 'Veni Creator Spiritus', the latter being one of my favourite modern compositions.
Franz_conrad, I've never heard of that work before. I'm having trouble finding it on the Internet and in the iTunes store. Would you mind telling me what it's from? Also, the 'Veni Creator Spiritus' - are you speaking of the choral theme from Mahler 8, or something else? Sorry, but my mind perked up when I read that, as I'm a pretty big Mahler fan, and, if there's another rendition of his music, I would love to hear it. Thanks. -

I don't think 'Veni Creator Spiritus' is a Mahler adaptation. The composer's discussion of it here makes it seem like an original work:

The disc I was playing is this one:

Edwards has a gorgeous gift for string orchestration.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

NP: Cello Concerto - Edward Elgar
I first heard this in the film August Rush, supposedly played by the main character's mother, a concert cellist. Really beautiful piece of music, very passionate. Cello is one of my favorite instruments besides the horn. -

At the risk of having to field some abuse, in my youth, I always preferred The Monkees.
Love em!

Santana rocks! I have the legendary GREATEST HITS album myself, you know the one with a black person holding a white dove. Fantastic stuff there, but for some reason I associate much of this music, like "Black Magic Woman" with a horror sentiment as I played it continually while reading THE SHINING. Weird how the mind works.
NP: "Innuendo" (Queen)I am extremely serious. -

Love this piece. The main theme is great, lots of cool, lyrical cello, violin, and horn lines, all throughout. -

A very satisfying oratorio, with Ian McKellan reading the first chapter of Genesis to Corigliano's intense orchestrtion. This CD also have the 'Elegy for Orchestra' and 'Voyage for Flute and String Orchestra' by the composer.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Well, not until Wednesday really!
Went down yesterday and set my tent up and had a chat with old friends who I rarely get to see except for the one week at Glastonbury once a year.

NP: Requiem - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Is it just me, or does the beginning of the opening movement sound like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean? This is a really great piece, lots of good choral music. I'm listening to it from the beginning for the first time right now (though I bought it a month or two ago). Dies Irae[/i] is amazing! -

Requiem is possibly the finest musical work ever, along with Beethoven's 9th and 5th symphonies. Mind-blowing, unmatchable musicianship and mastery.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

NP: Beethoven's Last Night (A Last Illusion; it's the only track I currently own from this album ) - Various
Some really sweet electric guitar stuff! Awesome arrangement of well-known classical works. I don't usually go for remixes and arrangements of classical pieces, but this one just blows me away every time I hear it! The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is absolutely fantastic, and I really hope to get the rest of this album sometime.
