Actually, Vietnam was WAY more sixties than it was seventies.
It was Kennedy mainly who started and propagated the whole thing.
Johnson tried for an exit strategy and Nixon succeeded in the seventies, but the bulk of American involvement was from 1960 to 1969.

It's Jim Steinman I can't stand, those big "power" anthems....BLECH!

I like Meat though ( is his real name Marvin something? ), like BRIAN BLESSED he's one of those lovable larger than life characters.

Going back to what Steven said earlier, Bat Out Of Hell is my definition of old man pub music. ( even though it seems to be on EVERY juke box in Britain )

    I love it.

Yeah, I would agree it's dated now in the sense that bringing out a record that sounds like that now wouldn't work: Bat Out Of Hell II didn't work for me at all for that very reason, and neither did the song Original Sin from The Shadow.

But the original Bat Out Of Hell? Outstanding!
    Not a wrong note anywhere!
It's high up in my list of Perfect ALbums.
Hmmm...now that might be worth a topic of its own.

Damn fine idea for a topic Martijn!? Please go for it!

I presume you mean off topic albums?

p.s. I'm well aware that I may be in a minority as regards BOOH, I know it's regarded as a classic album ( I believe it's one of Erik's all time faves too ), it's just not a sound that I personally like.

NP: OBJECTS OF FANTASY - THE MUSIC OF PINK FLOYD (performed by David Palmer & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra)

Naah...this is too cheesy. Too much "LSO plays Classic Rock", yet without LSO's artistic skill. If only they could have removed the pop beat, Pink Floyd's music would actually lend itself to a symphonic arrangement pretty well. Where's Michael Kamen when you need him?
