NP : FANTASIA ON A THEME BY THOMAS TALLIS - Ralph Vaughan Williams

There's only one ONE piece of music out there that's equal to this and that's also by Vaughan Williams.

    Genius!

    Dropkick Murphy's Loud and Clear.
It's American Rock with Irish tunes, bagpipes, mandolin, and other instruments with an Irish feel. They are pretty much the band of the city of Boston.

    NP: SYMPHONY NO. 2 IN D MAJOR...Sibelius

This is a piece that one would have to include in any top 100 list of must have classical pieces for a collection. The recording I'm listening to is Leonard Bernstein and the NY Philarmonic.

    Thomas smile

Wonderful 2 CD set with the Boston Symphony conducted by Seiji Ozawa cool

  4. NP: Tales and songs from weddings and funerals (Goran Bregovic)

Doesn't quite light up a room the way it did at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday night. Goran's music explodes with energy live, and here feels a bit restrained by the mixing of the music for CD. Oh well, it's still music full of heart, performed beautifully. For now, that will be enough.

  5. NP: The River (Ketil Bjornstad / David Darling)

Bjornstad on piano and Darling on cello. This album is much more enjoyable than THE SEA, full of the kind serene perpetual motion we associate with rivers.

Yup, it's a fine album with some equally fine renditions of his famous tunes. However, not ALL of the tracks hold up to symphonic arrangement ("Rendezvous 4, for example), and the addition of pop beats in a few tracks just annoy me.
    I am extremely serious.

I actually have only a short EP with only four tracks, so I have not yet heard Rendezvous 4. I hope to get the complete version later. wink

As I've said before about The Rite Of Spring one can argue that it was the important piece of music written in the 20th Century.

Orchestraly without a doubt. It's influence continues to this day in film scores.
